Here tips, and examples to help you give an ideal of types of scams, and phishing attacks that happens online daily that people can fall for, doesn't matter if you think it won't happen to you, it can happen if not paying attention, as some are very good tricks.
it didn't actually say why my name was removed which is why i contacted support
i'm positive that it's just an error or misunderstanding
i've been on steam for a long time and already know ab scams / highjacking
that's not what's going on here
Use something less ... edgy.
in the circles i'm in, it's always meant ' keep yourself safe '
i didn't want to type out the whole phrase because i wanted to match having a 3 letter name with some of my friends.
this is extremely unfortunate
i would never have a name like that on purpose, honest
Yes, it is a very common meaning for that abbreviation. I hope you now understand why the profile name was reported and acted on,
this really is an unfortunate coincidence, as hard as that is to believe.
anyway, thank you for explaining.
i will be a lot more careful and double check things in the future.
I wish, due to issue where it commonly used for many years by toxic users across social media, to gaming which it commonly accepted that what people meant when they use said acronym, It's always good idea to do little google search just incase there something didn't know what something might mean if someone playing a prank on you.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezawPHPKs9M
But funny enough, sometimes the said acronym can be used to refer to things in things such as games, or what not to help shorten a post, or speech.
i have actively avoided ever seeing a single full episode of rick & morty
i am going to continue this trend.
i looked into it more and found. . .not great things
however, i also found the meaning that i explained before
sometimes, it was ironic which is. . .extremely depressing
why wouldn't you want to truly wish someone well?
all anyone has to do is search my post history and know that i'm not a toxic gamer type
i don't really play multiplayer games, watch twitch or youtube, or really talk to anyone who would purposely use the abbreviation to mean what a toxic player would
' killing you softly ' is also another meaning.
it's a popular song lyric.
i'm never abbreviating anything in my display name again.
Ever heard of the car manufacturer Ford? One of the biggest and oldest companies to date.
They made a neat little car named Pinto. It was rather successful, so they wanted to export this affordable car to South America.
What they didn't know, that in Brazil Portuguese, the word Pinto has the meaning of tiny male genitalia.
It is of no surprise the car didn't sell well and was shortly renamed for that market and sold under the name Corcel.
Edit: lol I saw what link they put in. it wasn't the name, Steam doesn't have a way to remove someone's suspicious custom Steam Profile Link.
honestly, considering what the more common usage is, i think i got a slap on the wrist.
anyone who purposefully has a display name like that deserves a blanket ban.
maybe it's because i've never been flagged for anything else ever?
i used to try to actively help people with events and things, but it's been a long time.
thank you for trying to cheer me up however, that's quite a story.
i'm not going to be too harsh on the mod for this, honestly.
i'm usually a lot more careful and actually check out what stuff means before i use it as a name.
i do wish there was some kind of prior communication or simple warning, or even some kind of detailed explanation left in my inbox before punitive action was taken, however.
the display name changing ban will be over in a few hours, but i ultimately feel like this is 100% my fault.
this is about my display name, not my custom url
which i have been changing periodically
edit: how are all of you able to see any of my past names when they've already been cleared?
The reason is because you used an offensive name. Anything that breaks the community rules and guidelines is bound to be removed after reported. You should contact support if you feel they made a mistake because it's between you and them now.
