Phishing attempt through Discord
I was targeted for a Phishing attempt for my information for steam via discord. saying they wanted me to add a "steam operator" to verity the account was mine and to stop myself from being banned.
This was clearly fake. So i refused. I've already reported to discord but i thought i should report it here but i seem to be unable to do so. :/

That's correct, you can't. Steam is not Discord.

Valve doesn't own Discord. Do you complain to the manager of Burger King because of an issue at McDonald's?

Not much Valve can do, they're not the internet police.

There is a way for you to report the conversation in Discord to Discord. It's their platform. They should take responsibility for the actions of those in their platform.

I understand that Valve doesn’t own Discord, and I don’t expect them to police the entire internet. That said, the phishing attempt specifically targeted my Steam account and impersonated Steam staff, which makes it relevant for Valve to be aware of these tactics especially if patterns emerge that could affect other users.

I’ve already reported it to Discord, since the platform was being used for the scam. I just wanted to flag it here in case discord has any internal reporting or tracking process related to impersonation or targeted Steam-related scams. This isn’t about blaming Valve it’s about awareness and helping protect the broader Steam community.

So just because the phishing attempt didn’t happen on Steam, I shouldn’t report it even though the scammers were actively trying to steal my Steam credentials by impersonating Steam staff? That doesn’t quite add up.

also think it’s reasonable to inform Steam when someone is impersonating their staff and targeting their users, regardless of the platform used.

Steam staff don't use discord, simple as. Since they have no presence on the platform, you will have to just report it to discord.

In reality, if it happens off steam, it's not Valve's problem. And they don't care.

Steam already knows that this takes place.

Unfortunately they do not have any control or influence on other platforms. This is why it's important to report these things that happen on Discord to Discord. Discord needs to take action but they won't until it's been reported to them.
just report it to discord and block the person and move on only thing you can do and rry to keep your account secure by not fall for this stuff and never use your steam login outside steam that is just few things to think about :)
