Disk Write error, how the hell do I fix this?
A few days ago I downloaded Open Shell and Retro Bar to make my PC fit the look of Windows 7, however I noticed Steam deleted Hearts of Iron IV and GMOD, both games on my D:Drive, I tried re-installing them but Steam gave me an error known as "Disk Write Error" I deleted both Retrobar and OpenShell, thinking they were the problem, OpenShell had caused my PC to restart so Deleting it and Retrobar helped, but it didnt help with the Disk Write Error, I can download on C:DRive but not my D:Drive. I had to go to Youtube and watched videos, I did these things below and NONE... of them worked...

1. Uninstall Steam
2. Clear Download Cache
3. Put Steam as Administrator
4. Repair Library Folder (D:Drive)
5. Format D:Drive (Wiped everything off of it)
6. Gave full control to User (Me) for Steam and D:Drive
7. Restarted PC

Note: for those who will say Antivirus causes it, I dont use Antivirus, I did use a method to download Gmod on my C:Drive then shifted it over to the D:Drive, but even that didn't work as when I tried enter the game it gave me an error message, I quite literally can't play anything normally and my C:Drive only has 30 GB free on it so I cant play things like Black Ops 3, GTA V or Payday 2 if I wanted to play them on that, all in all this is pissing me off, and I have no alternative but to go the steam community to see if maybe here my problem could be solved.

Disk write error suggests something wirh the disk. You've done some troubleshooting and identified disk D: is the problem. But it doesn't look like you've actually run any disk utilities to address the issue.

So start with chkdisk I guess.
Alright, I will do it
I done it and even after doing it, the Game still doesnt download to Disk Drive D...
This is what it said in the CHKDSK:

Stage 5: Looking for bad, free clusters ...
244153442 free clusters processed.
Free space verification is complete.
Phase duration (Free space recovery): 2.57 hours.
Correcting errors in the Master File Table (MFT) mirror.
Failed to fix master file table (MFT) mirror.
CHKDSK aborted.
also i can download stuff outside of steam onto my disk drive D but not on steam, something seems up here...

This is always a local issue

1) your permissions are messed up. Running steam as an administrator can generally fix thi

2) your anti-virus sucks. Uninstall it and use Windows Defender
I thought I already listed here that I already ran steam as an administrator and that I do not use Anti-Virus. Read the post.

The reality is you screwed up your system so much using these dumb apps to make your OS look like windows 7. Its not staem's fault these things hook into explorer and the shell and then proceed to dumpter fire your system once anything minor happens to these programs

Also is your D:\ an external or network drive. that's another issue if that's the case

If there nothing on that drive, and failed to fix, try formatting it.

If something not right, I'm gonna ask you to do drive health check using CrystalDiskInfo, and test performance with CrystalDiskMark.

So if you see any MAJOR problems via CrystalDiskInfo, then that be BAD sign in your case if unable to repair, or format unable to fix the issue.

What part of this reads A-OK to you?

When you researched this result, what did you learn? *hint-hint

your hard drive has a serious issue if CHKDSK cannot fix the master file table.

Agree with above user, you could check Brand hard drev webpage and be lucky if they have made app or firmware or fix, its rare but it is seen before.

Or have warrant on it but its from win7 ( maybe drev is already busted, i mean win7 look like whatever you mean here is years ago 2017 so warrant on most drev is gone. )

Did you had one of them Linux clone installed that make a file system in windows such file can be seen as gibberish for windows, they require special uninstall app from linux or total re format in NTFS. ( it's a long time ago i have seen such file format unless you forgot you did it. ) and this dont look like that case here.

why are you that type of person that says ' i fixed it ' without saying HOW you fixed it? do you really want to be cursed to eternity by everyone who comes looking for the answer and only finds that as your last comment?
