Windows crashing during game download
I am getting sudden crashes during game downloads. The farthest I have gotten is 17GB at a time. This crash does not happen anywhere else that ive tried. It is a sudden freeze then a quick reboot as if i had hit the reset button. I have a brand new install of win11 pro 24H2. drivers are updated, bios is updated. I'm downloading to a 2tb nvme ssd, samsung 990pro. I've ran through the cmd commands of sfc and dism. steam and all subfolders of steam are excluded from windows defender.

CPU: Ryzen 5900x
MOBO: MSI tomahawk b450 max ii
RAM: 16gB G.Skill 3600
GPU: AMD 6700xt

OP is BIOS Chipset Driver even update, same goes with all other driver from board support webpage. ( don't count windows update do that for you.. )

It's a frequent coomon mistake PC AMD user's do, in pretty much every steam forum post.

And be lucky if this is the case, because next steps is what you have done and option in that OS most worse possible idea's and downhill fron this point.

ps.
Do not forget routera can have a firmware update and need a reset if updated.

Check your motherboard for bios updates. Run memtest86 and prime95 stress test. If all ok. Then a graphics card diagnostic like 3d mark.

Hope this helps
Check if you have the right network drivers. Get it from MSI support downloads as always everything from your motherboard. Ofcourse.
Go here, OP, download the AMD Chipset Drivers Installer application (I set it for AM4 - b450 plus it will automatically detect upon launch):

1) Run a FULL windows update
2) reboot PC

Note you should look in the event viewer to see what module is causing the issue. Steam cannot crash the entire OS. it lives on the application layer of the OS. It has no access to the HAL where that kind of thing would happen

Also note that downloads are CPU and disk IO intensive

Its possible your CPU is having issues or overheating if the CPU fan is bad or your CPU cooling is bad

Its also possibl eyour disk could have problems. I would use CrystalDiskInfo to see if there any bad issues on your disks
Heat management could cause bluescreens also. Check how hot. Water cooling is a must now a days

Note this depnds on the CPU. My AMD3800X with teh stock air cooler works fine even under Prim95 loads which isnt even a realistic load
You got a better idea to legally test CPU arithmetic, and shuffle ram.
