I received a pop up from Valve, as if my client needed to update. So of course I click on 'allow Valve to make changes'. Next thing I know I receive messages from [VA ]Evelyn Moore saying there is "suspicious activity" on my account.
Of course I realise this is a bloody scam. Seconds later, skins start disappearing from my account.
Use Steam Guard, don't share your password, don't use the same password on various websites, don't trust pop ups that look legit, and report the scammers. There is virtually no chance I will get my items back, but that's life.
Best and stay safe
A more robust strategy might be to learn about scams, how they work, why they work and accept they exploit human weaknesses we all have even you. The more you understand both ends of the process, the better equipped you'll be.
Make sure you have your Steam security set up properly. Steam Guard, backup recovery codes. Make sure your phone and/or email is also secure. Keeping all your accounts safe can only benefit your Steam account.
I would recommend using a password manager like BitWarden or KeePass (there are others that are perfectly fine too). The benefits are not just passwords.
Don't rely on your memory, it's not reliable no matter what you tell yourself today. You will forget some things eventually. And there's an old proverb about the faintest ink being worth more than the sharpest memory.
Learn actual security practices, don't rely on the half-ass ad hoc solutions you invent today that make you feel good. Too easy to change on the fly because you invented them on the fly. Established standards are better and easier to follow and maintain.
Read the Steam Item Restoration Policy.
Is there an Update?
Got the same [VA]Evelyn Moore messages and not only that, she/he could disconnect me from steamnetwork and could activate and deactivate my friendslist. Also did the messages from her not come from an normal steam account. They appeared outside my Friendlist and where gone after that. She even started an steamworks update on my pc and most of my items are gone. Also a Steam support ticket was issued by her through my account regarding the prohibation of my account. Iam so confused right now.
