Steamwebhelper is not working / A critical steam component is missing etc
Everything was fine b4 I went to work, got home and steam updated and that's when my problems started. I get that message in the thread title and there are also 5 potions in the box to press including restart etc but none off them work.
I've read many threads, looked at many videos and even tried a sys restore and nothing has worked.
I can't believe an app that has well over a 100 games of mine that have cost a small fortune can simply keep me out?
I desperately need help.
Thanks in advance.

Well we don't live in a perfect universe, and lots of things can possibly happen for things to break or malfunction. Most people are using Steam fine, and Valve may not be responsible every time your PC slips on a banana peel. After all who knows what the state of your PC is.

Have you tried reinstalling Steam or restarting your PC?

What AV are you running? It's possible it could be preventing Steam components from running.

What version of Windows are you running, what are your system specs?

My pc is a top of the range one and was fine the last few weeks, from reading online this issue is more commom then you would think...
I'm using a runaround at the moment by playing my games in compability mode...
Testing them to see if it is a negative or not, 1st one seemed to be fine, I'll continue testing.

Well those aren't system specs. If it's not worth your effort to answer any questions or provide requested info, kinda means you don't care if the problem gets resolved.

The runaroound makes teh games sluggish now....not smooth at all, some worse than others.
Please don't reply to the thread if you have nothing useful to add nullable.
Thanks

Having the same issue today. Every solution I find online does not work for me.

The only way I can get into Steam is by using the Compatibility Mode which isn;t idle as it seems to make the games laggy.
If you want to try that right click on ur steam.exe and go to properties and then go to Compatibility tab and then tick Run this program as an administrator a lso tick the box Run this program in Compatibility Mode for windows 8..

This didn't work for me at first for some reason but after re-installing and tinkering a bit it seems to be working now. Re-downloading a game now to test performance.

So just to clarify it's the Compatibility Mode work around ur trying?
Interestingly as I still test my games RDR2 doesn't support Win 8 anymore...so taht's a no go for me.
All the money I spent on this PC and I've to play on Win 8 supported games, Steam really has a lot to answer for.

Yes Windows 8 compatibility mode, I'm able to log in now. And same, I just built this PC 2 months ago and have never seen this before. Seems to be the most recent update causing the issue, hopefully it gets fixed soon.

I got it straight after the latest update and this is why Steam is to blame..
Let me know how you feel your games are running compared to b4...
When I uninstalled steam earlier I uninstalled all my games ofc lol
So I'm d/l Cp2077 overnight.

Had to restart Steam and I can't get it to work now. Re-installed once again but nothing is working. I've run out of patience with this today.

Decided to try one last thing and it actually worked without compatibility mode, but it takes about 5 minutes to log in.

https://note.com/vawmemo/n/nd5e9b3046efd

1. Open Task Manager and select Open Resource Monitor from the Performance tab to display the Resource Monitor.

2. Keep the "CPU" tab open on the resource monitor and the "Details" tab open on the task manager.

3. Start Steam, do not hesitate, right-click Steam.exe in the process column of the resource monitor → Select "Suspend process". This allows you to ignore Steam's webhelper waiting timer and wait a long time.

4. Then wait until the usage memory of task manager steamwebhelper.exe does not increase. ( 1 ~ 2 minutes in my environment)

** I didn't notice the memory usage change, I just waited a few minutes.

5. Then right-click Steam.exe from the resource monitor → "Resume the process".

Ok first of all I appreciate you taking the time to write it out clearly from that Japanese site, I found your way far easier to grasp but ofc I'm no pc tech head so it took me 15 mins just to find stuff in your guide..
I got into steam and I've turned off compatibility mode too, about to test Dead Space my game now...
Will get back with results..
You didn't say if we have to go thru this process every time as in when we switch back on the computer..
I'll test that after the game.

I opened a ticket for this temp around fix and I'd everybody was to do this and send to steam support it surely would have to get them into action?
