Get rid of Microsoft store pop-up
I have win11 and have uninstalled the Microsoft store.
Now every time I play a game using the xbox controller I get a pop-up telling me to download something from the Microsoft store.
Is there a way to get rid of this?

What is the "something" it is trying to download?

It´s a pop-up like this:

I should download the "ms-gamingoverlay".
I assume it´s the xbox gamebar?

Do you have the Game Bar "Allow your controller to open Game Bar" setting turned off?

If it's on, that might be why your system is attempting to install it.

That would be a simple solution, but unfortunately it's already off .

Edit:
And I don´t have the game bar installed.

Anything from this page that you haven't already done?

My edit was a bit late.
The game bar is not installed.
For Xbox I have "Xbox Live", "Xbox Message" and "Xbox Accessories"
Thanks for your help btw.

Unfortunately, Microsoft is as always quite invasive, because (depending on the settings) the popup generally appears in games or full-screen applications. Not only when a controller is used.

Check your HD/system apps for Xbox, Xbox Game UI, Xbox Identity Provider, Xbox TCUI. But make a backup before you change something. Especially with things like powershell, windows sometimes reacts very sensitively. Can't tell you more about it.

If you are getting that pop up it is because you did not fully uninstall the Microsoft Store nor any additional dependencies it has.

I removed the Microsoft Store after using a trial of PC Game Pass and do not see that pop up. I remember several things had to be installed at the time and uninstalled. I will see if i can find the link to the article i used to fully remove it.

Thanks!
I tried this with the power shell:

But it didn´t work.
I may have to install and uninstall the store and/or the game bar again. (?)
I'll report back when I've tried something.

Probably also a rights issue with the Trusted Installer privilege. What would still be possible would be a custom installation of Windows 11 without bloatware.

There are various guides and methods for this. Difficult to say in advance whether something will work perfectly for you or not.

After uninstalling with the power shell I get the message:
"We could not open this ms-gamebar link.
App is missing."

So apparently I need the gamebar.
But I don't feel like it, so I guess I'll have to live with it.

gamebar literally uses zero resources, every time you update windows it will be re installed as its classed as part of the OS, just install it, disable it from opening with controller and forget its there.

I can't download or install the gamebar because I don't have an app to run it.
(probably the store).
They really don't make it easy.

the store is also part of the OS as many of their services and a lot of the built in apps require it for updates, basically windows is free and you have to accept the terms and conditions of using said os for free that includes any items built in, the store is actually an integral part of the os as it is the backbone of all updates, even then xbox app cannot function or download games without the store.
