32bit MacOS refund
steam will not refund me for the 32bit MacOS only games in my library after dropping support for that OS - effectively stealing games from my library. since they will not refund for this abusive practice, i had my credit card company chargeback my purchase of a steamdeck. believe me a free steam deck is worth more than if they had just refunded me the handful of games they stole from my library.

Apple dropped support for 32bit, not Valve.

And fraud is a bad way of exacting revenge on the wrong company.

Get a PC, then you can still play x86-32 games on it, even under Windows 11.

Also, if you defraud Steam, they can permanently suspend your account for that.

Yeah, take it up with Apple.

At any rate you're not owed a refund because your current system no longer meets the requirements. Go get a legacy Mac running an old version of MacOS.

What is happening with 32-bit Mac apps?

Apple ended support for 32-bit Mac applications with their release of macOS Catalina 10.15.

See their support article here[support.apple.com].

Can I keep playing my Mac games that I purchased that are 32-bit?

Yes. You will still have access to your 32-bit Mac games in your Steam Library. We are not removing these games from your library and they will continue to work on macOS 10.14 Mojave and earlier, Windows and in many cases Linux as well.

What are my options to make sure I can continue to play my 32-bit Mac apps?

There are several options that will allow you to keep playing your 32-bit Mac apps. The good news is we have Steam Play, which means that when you purchased your game on Steam you get a copy of this game on each OS that game supports. You will still be able to play these games on macOS 10.14 Mojave and earlier, Windows and in many cases Linux as well.

Options to keep 32-bit Mac games playable on a Mac computer:
  • Consider not upgrading to macOS 10.15 or above. By staying on macOS 10.14 Mojave or older you will ensure that your 32-bit apps are still playable on your Mac computer.
  • After upgrading to macOS 10.15 Catalina, consider installing macOS 10.14 Mojave on a separate APFS volume on your computer along with Steam. This will allow you to flip over to macOS 10.14 on restart of your computer where you can continue to play all of your 32-bit Mac games. More information here[support.apple.com].
  • Use Boot Camp on Mac to launch your games in Windows on your Mac computer. More information about Boot Camp can be found here[support.apple.com].

In fact, if your little charge-back scheme ends up working, I hope they do exactly that.

Hardware chargebacks are similar to regular chargebacks in that your account will automatically be locked and restricted from future purchases.

Like regular chargebacks, you can remove the lock on your account by removing the dispute with your financial institution. Unlike other chargebacks, however, accounts locked for Hardware chargebacks will not be unlocked until the associated hardware is returned.

I find it odd that you blame Steam for something that Apple did, OP.

That's right. Keep supporting the company and buying their overpriced products even though they showed you how much they care for you as an individual.

How are they Stealing when you still have the game PERMANENTLY linked to the account?
Apple removed support.

Doing a Chargeback is actually YOU committing FRAUD, TWICE. 1. by lying to the card provider about why you are doing a chargeback because no card provider would process a Chargeback for your reason. 2. Chargeback a purchase without returning the physical item or even trying to refund it the official way....something a card provider will have wanted you to have tried BEFORE contacting them

My favorite part is where the admit to the fraud freely and openly on the company's own forums. Talk about deluded.

It would be hilarious if the card company caught wind of this. They do investigate charge-backs and don't just blindly trust that they're being done for legitimate reasons.

I notice some posts were nuked. Someone got upset that their Apple overlords don't like to be talked down upon.

All companies investigate chargebacks. They don't just roll over and accept them. It was very nice of you, all things considered, to give this company all the evidence they need to overturn your fradulent claim via their own website. I can't help wondering if an admission like that will get you blacklisted by the card issuer too.

A chargeback immediately blacklists the payment method.

A chargeback on Steam results in the payment method being blacklisted on Steam. I was referring to a blacklist by the card issuer. Ie. No more credit card for OP. Not if the issuer sees that written declaration of an intention to commit fraud, anyway.
