Loading the library now slows the system to a crawl
When I pull up any game now, there is a good chance Steam itself becomes unresponsive or incredibly slow. I already tried clearing the cache, closing and reopening again and nothing seems to help.

Edit: Hitting ctrl+shift+esc (Or just open task manager your way) to open task manager. Steam.exe may show as unresponsive. If so, this may be your issue. Esp if it's frequently going unresponsive.

The store, community and profile tabs do not seem to slow things down and if I scroll down through the library without clicking anything on the "recent" column, everything seems fine but once I click on a game (and game, it seems, CPU usage spikes and Steam becomes mostly unresponsive (though the rest of my system seems unaffected).

cant find a solution anywhere and this is getting really annoying. steam will just literally close itself randomly. it wont even say that its "not responding" it will literally just close

Have you tried low bandwidth mode on library yet? It's on Steam settings and "Library" tab.

Also just confirmed that scrolling down through the list of games doesn't affect anything but once I click on any game, either in the list of recent titles or on the "bookshelves" below, everything slows. CPU usage for Steam alone goes up to about 20% without any game loaded.

Just tried that. I was able to click on an additional game or two before it did the same thing. CPU spikes now seen above 25% during this unresponsive time.

I also know it was not doing this on Thursday, so whatever is going on is new.

I honestly forgot I was even signed up for beta version there. I turned that off and restarted Steam... seems to be back to normal. Thanks for the quick assist!

If switching out, or in beta may mean there's an issue with client files, or something conflicting with it, or update in rare case being problematic.

Another possibility if someone encounter the issue is where client becomes slow, or has issue is because of 3rd party antivirus set to scan application either repeatedly, or that it doing deep scan that messing with app how it functionality.

Anyways if app working as intended by switching out of beta, then means latest update is an issue, but beta often get updates, so give, or take if an issue occurs, or not with beta.

The only thing I saw repeatedly showing up as using information was system copying gpu 3D but it seems steam.exe wasn't liking any of it.

I'm just really glad it has helped others because it took me hours to troubleshoot everything, which I wanted to get some things updated anyhow :D

You're very welcome :104: I totally forgot mine was on beta, too. Sadly it was the last thing I found but at least some things got tended to that could've used a clean up so all isn't lost in my case. Just glad for a quick fix for you ✔ ヅ :happyheart: Yay!! ^.^

@ Dr. Shadows, I don't know enough about that stuff. I wish I did but I'd probably get another case of information overload. lol Whatever specifics about it is going bad, I do hope they get it worked out. Mine did happen after a steam update though.

No worries, everyone learn somethings overtime, the more play with something the more you learn about it, and always good to give helping hand to community. Beta always been iffy as can get a bad update despite of weeks/months of good updates, and often best to avoid issue is using stable build. :ojseagull:

I agree @ Dr. Shadowds. (didn't see that d before) I think I'll stick with stable build :104: Now on to learn the next thing. ♥

Aww TY for the awards ♥
