Thanks for the reply,
however, I don't even see the verification of my backup files begin (if I open the download section) and it's been a long time.
The game in question is spiral knights (around 300MB), but I also have many other backups such as left4dead 2 (with around 10GB of backups which should take even longer in proportion).
That said, Spiral Knights is updated constantly(ish) so your backup of that is rather likely useless either way.
You see all the installation phases of the game: a first phase of checking the local files followed by a second phase of download (if some of these files have changed) and a third phase of final installation.
In my case I don't see any of this,
moreover, if it can be useful in managing tasks, the steam process is using very little cpu and the temp and downloading folders are empty.
can confirm it does recognize the game but in the next dialog it just hang up.
canceled and tried a new backup file (sku.sis+.csm.+csd) and steam just exit :D the new files work after I startup steam again. and yes it instantly generates a downloads entry.
so I guess you're out of luck with the old backups
I checked, it's pretty much at 0KB / s
so if I understand correctly, the old backups do not start with you too?
to me the new ones (csd / csm) work correctly
if so, we'd both be out of luck;)
I would like to extract the contents of the csd / csm files of an old backup of the Hacknet game which in the past contained the soundtrack in flac format as well as mp3 (currently the soundtrack is only mp3 and with the steam restore it does not extract it).
how can I recover the files inside the "408710_depotcache_1.csd" file (which in my old backup is about 686MB instead of the current about 167MB).
thank you
I ask if possible a response from some moderator and if there is no solution, even negative
( im not here to tell what devs can do or not, but seen from there point of view then NO , because soon every steam user think asking or begging for help will help. ) So NO make steam support ticket, if you are not happy with other steam user reply or help here.
and just becaause you ask support dont mean they see it as a steam issue or related to them or need to think over it before they reply ona case with whatever topic.
any company employes know this today, most have been there and done that,
moderator dont help on tech issue only chat issue afaik. ( could change someday what if they make some tech/sup/mod in one, its seen before. )
problem with that is you cant argue with tech person without follow standard, and its not the first time other solution on tech issue might work even then its not standard. so that job is more do as you wish but its not suggest by steam i bet.
make steam ticket , no ticket then steam has no problem , company work like that today.
ps.
only him with the problem can report it, you need a red flag made by steam then they might hear on others.
gl with it.
sense i never use it cant help you
i google this with the restore issue
https://cs.thomsonreuters.com/ua/fixa/cs_us_en/kb/ultratax-cs-and-fixed-assets-cs-restoring-client-data-from-email-file-csd-file.htm
more a what if you did not google this yourself and if it work.
gl with it.
Thank you very much,
I got the meaning (although not all abbreviations ;D)
ps.
concerning this (https://cs.thomsonreuters.com/ua/fixa/cs_us_en/kb/ultratax-cs-and-fixed-assets-cs-restoring-client-data-from-email-file-csd-file.htm),
I don't think we're talking about the same thing,
anyway thanks for the effort
Steam has made the soundtrack of the Hacknet game (408710_depotcache_1.csd) available again in FLAC format (but this time only in this format XD).
Therefore I was able to redownload it again and return to the initial situation (soundtrack in mp3 and flac format).
However, to date, the problem of being able to manually recover files from old backups persists (both csd/csm and sid/sim/sis).
This is why I am compacting all new backups in 7z and no longer in the protected steam format.
