Steam Gift Cards Region Locked?

So i've been wanting to get a gift card to recharge my steam account but the retailer says its for NA. Would I only be able to recharge it if i have an NA account or is it universal? Also how do you check the account region? Is it the download region or what?

last i checked , steam cards worked as currency but mainly a code , didnt think they were rechargeable as ive bought a ton, but since its more or less a code , you should only have to obtain a Steam Gift Card and redeem the code.

Other users reported that redeeming a Steam Wallet card on their account would add the funds to their wallet in the currency of where ever the Steam Wallet card was purchased. Some users, for example, were on Vacation in the USA, and purchased a Steam Card, then when they redeemed it on their account it added funds in US Dollars, which were not compatible with their Steam Store currency, they then had to contact Steam Support to fix it.

So, proceed with caution.

Currently live in the UAE (and set the download server to UAE in the settings). Would NA cards work for my account?

I have no experience with using Steam cards. I only know what other users have reported here on these forums when asking for help.

They are not. Previously people had trouble with it because the currency of the gift-code would not match the currency of the account, the code would be redeemed but the money would not appear in the wallet. The user would not be able to use it unless support was contacted for help.

But now this has been fixed and Steam's system will automatically convert whatever currency and amount of the gift-code into the current currency of your current account. Be aware tho that the exchange rates Steam uses to convert currencies into one another are quite different, not extratosferically but significantly, from "real life" values.

yes the amount will be converted from USD to whatever currrency your account is set at.
