Steam Wallet Code NOT Working

I got a $20 Steam gift card from GameStop, today. Before when I bought from there, they just gave me a receipt with the Steam wallet code printed on it. This time they instead game me a card (powered by Fast card) with a 15 digit code on the back under some rub-off. When I try to type it in I get this error message:

An unexpected error has occurred. Your code could not be redeemed at this time

That doesn't really tell me what the problem is. For all I know Steam is just having some issues that will be fixed shorty. Is there an issue with wallet codes not working right now and I just need to wait?

steam might be having trouble right now try in about 30 to 60 min and see if the error happens again, if so phone gameshop and see if they will help you.

Still not working. I also called Gamestop and they said I needed to contact steam support. I did file a steam ticket.

Googling this problem mostly brings up a bunch of results for a couple of years ago when there was some problem with cards from Bestbuy not being properly activated at the cash register. I must say that if that is the case then "An unexpected error has occurred. Your code could not be redeemed at this time" is a rather inaccurate error message.

I still have the receipt but I'm not sure how I can prove to Gamestop that the code was no good if the error is on their end. I'm sure I can get them to do something about it if I go back to the store and complain in person. But it's a 15 minute drive and I don't want to waste time and money driving there just for that. So if that is the case I may be stuck without a solution until next saturday when I'm in that area, again. So I'm hoping this is something Steam can fix.

I've never heard of them giving you a card for Steam Wallet unless that's really really new.

Did you by any chance use your Power Up Rewards card? I've heard that when you do, it puts the code in your Digital Locker.

If you're getting the unexpected error it could be an issue with Steam. You can try openting a Steam Support ticket.
