wher do i enter a cd key?

i purchased star wars battlefront 2 but it didn't come w/ a cd key. so i contacted steam support and they sent me a code. 1. do i enter it w/ dashes? 2. do i put the [ ] things around it? 3. why is the code sepporated? 4. where do i enter it? i go to library and click on the + thing and click on activate product... is that even where i enter it????????????

Lower left corner of the Steam Client there is a "+ ADD A GAME..."
Click that, click "Activate a Product on Steam"
Add the code, with the hyphons, but don't put the brackets in it.

If it's not a Steam Key, then you need to add it to what ever game service it's required for. Be it registering a game with a Publisher's service (like Uplay or EA Origin) or for registering you account for online play through a Publisher's service.

ok thnks but they send it to me w/ brackets and a space? so no brackets but do i put a space?
and why is there a space? do they send me two codes to try?

example....... [3578-6544-fndj] [ef4ycfw] thats not the code i just typed that in... they sent me a code that that. so why is there a space???????????

That isnt a steam code... double check with them.

no no no no no. i just typed that in to say why is there a space? i just made that code up. just why is there a space?

Even if that's not the specific code, that's not the format for a Steam code., that's what the user meant.

Steam Codes look like the following:

AAAAA-BBBBB-CCCCC
AAAAA-BBBBB-CCCCC-DDDDD-EEEEE
237ABCDGHJLPRST 23

I've not seen one with brackets used.
