Are the Steam Support horror stories true?
Hello all! I got my regular account hijacked three days ago. Yes, I understand it was my fault. Yes, I understand that only Steam Support can fix my problem. But hear me out.

What I want to know is: are some of these things people have been saying about Steam Support true? I've read that for some people, it took months to get their account back. I even read that this one guy even got tired of waiting for a reply and gave up.

I realize that I have to be extra patient because of the high amount of tickets they've been getting, but I'll get my account back eventually, right? Hopefully in less than a month..?

Thanks in advance; I've never used Steam Support before and therefore I have no real experience with it.

If you have your credit card info, cd keys scan or anything prove that you are owner, then no worries, u will get your account back.
The horror stories go insorfar that yes, it does take a long while to get a reply. Make it easy on them by keeping your ticket as short as possible. Give all the info, no opinion, and be thorough the first time. You don't want them taking 10 days to reply only for them to ask you another question which will take another 10 days to get another reply.
There are no "horror stories" about Steam Support. They are slow, that's it.

Muckymucks pretty much nailed it; be patient, cooperative (you might get a first, copy-pasted answer in the first 24-48 hours, don't get mad because it doesn't solve your issue right away) and provide whatever they might ask - which isn't anything that you (should) not know as the account owner.
Note that the feedback you're going to read on the internet regarding any support service are mostly negative ones. Users satisfied with a support service are way less vocal than those who are dissatisfied.
Working on a support service teaches one to take the stories on the internet with a pinch of salt.
All in all, support techs are persons too and do mistakes as users do. We're all human.

The few times I've ever had to use Steam Support I usually got a response back within 1-3 days. Though i've never had a core account issue like a hijack or such.
Thank you all! I feel much better now. But one more question: I had a card linked to the account, how screwed am I?
Any payment method stored is wiped on a password change as a security measure.
So if the hijacker changed passwords, that info is gone for good from the account.
