Steam Games crash on my Surface Pro 2?
Not sure if it's steam, or my Surface Pro 2, or the fact I have windows 8? But all my games crash. To start people said the SP2 is great for gaming, so the games should work on it. Anyways, I've refreshed my whole computer, uninstalled and reinstalled games and everything. I just bought a new game (STALKER SoC) and the fact that I can't play it is so frustrating. I open the game and it seems to work, the menu works and everything, until i click play... then it all shuts down and there is a big black square in the upper left corner left and thats it. After that I can't use my desktop, I have to restart my computer to use it again.. anyone have any solutions? This is a whole new computer I paid a lot for and one of my reasons for getting it was gaming!

The Surface Pro 2 is the problem.

Whoever told you that is completely clueless.

Turn down every graphical setting, turn down your resolution to it's lowest supported setting, turn off any anti-aliasing or anisotropic filtering. Then cross your fingers and hope you can get Stalker to run.
Surface 2 isn't terrible for gaming, but if you're trying to run stalker on a pseduo tablet, it's not going to run well or at all. For 3D games you're gonna get wrecked because SP2 only has an intel 4400u GPU. It's a known fact that all intel GPU's below IRIS is awful, even IRIS is only mediocre at best.

If you plan on playing 3D games such as stalker, skyrim, far cry, etc on max. A Surface Pro 2 will disappoint you completely. You are paying a massive price for the mobile tech and portability.

Then you don't know what you're talking about. 2D gaming is perfect on the Surface Pro 2. For something to be absolutely terrible it would have to not be able to run even 2D games.

It looks like he is getting about 20fps in that video. Games before 2007 will run sightly better i reckon.

You're actually arguing the semantics of an arbitrary adverb/adjective pair? Source? (Just kidding!)

I play Rome 2 on my Surface Pro 2. Lowest settings, sure; but it works fine. People who are saying its terrible at gaming are confusing me because honestly, it's legitimately not *bad*. If you can stomach low graphics settings for the less intensive new games then you're golden.

The HD4000 isn't too bad. I play CSGO on it without issue.

It "works" as long as you understand it's capabilities and set the settings accordingly
