Incorrect "Last Online" times

I've noticed something over the past week and I couldn't see any topics on it in the recent help and tips sections, so I thought I'd make my own.

What I've noticed is essentially large portions of my friends list will have the same "Last Online" times, when I know they weren't all online around the time it says. They all seem to stay consistent with each other, like some kind of glitch. However, it doesn't seem to affect everyone on the list, as some are longer or shorter than the time for the "Last Online" of the majority of people. Also, some people have a default ? avatar and no last online time, despite not having a private profile or something along those lines.

It might not make much sense, but I've put a link to a screenshot below to show what I mean:

Has anyone else had this problem recently?

This was temporarily fixed for me. Someone had said that if you turn off "Show Avatars" it was supposed to fix it. So I did; it didn't work and I turned them back on. The next day I rebooted my machine for the first time in weeks. When I got back on Steam, my friend Last Online dates were fixed! However, my game categories were all busted. I backed up my profile and re-inserted it into the steam folder. This fixed my game library categories...but broke my friends' Last Online dates again :/

Maybe something in profiles is bugging it.

It's crazy that this is still a problem. I don't like when they change something and break others. Please fix this.

It seems like it's been broken forever. However, I noticed that the only time my Last Online times are broken is when I put my computer to Sleep mode every night with Steam running. Whenever I do a full reboot, the next load of Steam has proper Last Online times. Otherwise they are all with t=0 being the moment I woke my machine up.

You don't have to do a full reboot, just restart Steam and the "Last Online" times will show correctly.

It's been around long enough I don't expect a fix anymore. It's like expecting Gmail to make improvements. If it has been requested since 2011 and been ignored, they obviously don't care that much.

my last online time is incorrect whenever I do the offline option from friends window... e.g. right now my last online should be about 15 mins ago, says 11 hours ago.

Happens to me on a regular basis. I find restarting my Steam usually fixes it, though for some reason it annoys me.

Don't worry, you're not the only one. 9 days out of 10 I simply put my computer in Sleep mode. So, every day except that 1/10 all of my friends' last online times are wrong. Or if a game crashes so bad that even Steam dies, which has been happening way too often lately.

Oh, I'm not worried. I'm just letting the author know he's not the only one experiencing this.
