Error Code 83
I tried to launch a game, but it doesn't work and I get the error code 83 instead. What does that mean, and how can I get the game to load again? I didn't change anything on my computer since playing the last time, so I don't have any clue as to what might have caused this error. Can anybody help?

Depends if you're willing to mention the game's name..

You're posting in 'Help and Tips' (general hub)

The game is "Orcs Must Die! 2", and any kind of help is much appreciated.

Steam > Library > Orcs must die (Rightclick > Properties) > Local (TAB) > Verify Integrity of Game cache.

Thanks!
The problem occurred again. I did as suggested, but this time it said 1 file was corrupted and would be re-acquired. But it seems it wasn't re-acquired at all, as the problem remains, and each time I have the game files verified, the same message pops up. Seems like the "fix" fails every time to re-acquire that missing file. :(
Any idea how I can solve this problem?
The only thing that helped (for a while) was deleting and re-installing the game. Whenever this error occurs again (after game crashes, usually), there is only one way of resolving the problem: Uninstall, then install again. It really sucks!

try to figure out which file is bad and delete it or the directory above it, that should force the game to reset/reinstall partially and reacquire the file
But how to find out? Steam does not signify which file is corrupted.

Youre still having this issue 5 years later?

What is happening is the game is crashing and that file is being corrupted.

You need to address the crash, not the down stream issue resulting from it.
You cannot avoid crashes, they are just gonna happen from time to time, especially in co-op. I am not having these problems constantly, but they do pop up now and then.

Whenever you link a game of your (true) first steam account to another, eg. by providing the game to a second or third one over family sharing, the error appears to point back to the main account at first. Afterwards the error in the main account is given as well. *steam logic

Another point, where i found this special error is within the transition/shift of games that are already taken for free in the internet but then are rebuilded by steam to a later time. In such cases we have two game directories and twice the game. Both do not work for the player in steam. *arc does not work as well

Lets list the games: Construction Simulator 2015, Champions Online
Or similar: The Ark of Horizon - choose server problem: list empty, Cliff Empire - in game problem: builder drone support of goods sets out, powerplants blow, ...
