If you click Games > Activate a product on Steam
You can add games you bought elsewhere on Steam so they work through steam an' you get Steam achievements or whatever else. You'll need the product code though.
It should be noted that this only works with a very limited subset of games, there's a support article that details the games supported.
For example, I have a LA Noire with all the DLCs retail eddition, it's on STEAM but not on that list.
So is it safe to say? I my retail eddition won't be loaded into STEAM?
Here's the list..
For example I have Bioshock 2 and Lost Planet and they are on that list as being supported but when I installed them they didn't go to my Steam Games.
As in ran the installer from the disk? You need to activate a game's serial key from within Steam, thereby adding it to your Steam account to have it download/patch via Steam. Also, you can easily add a non-Steam game to Steam with the "non-steam shortcut" option, it of course won't download updates via steam, but you will be able to launch it via steam and use some Steam features like screenshots.
So I was able to get games like BioShock 2 to get added.
However some other games that are on the list and not supported that way, I guess I should just add them under "Non Steam Short cut?"
