Can't install games on SSD.
Hi! Just got a new computer, and I have a SSD and a HDD. I'm trying to download Civ5 on my SSD but it wont let me. When I click install, I select the SSD and it says to make a folder. So I make a folder called "Steam" in program files. When I select that folder it says that the SSD is read only. Can anyone help? Im on windows 7 if that helps. Any advice is much appreciated!

Are you creating the library from the Steam client?

Steam> Settings> Downloads> Steam Library Folders> Add library folder

Try to make the folder somewhere else, not inside a windows folder, those could be protected and might require admin access, something Steam may not have.

Just make a Steam folder in the root folder for instance

Then again the whole Windows drive might require administrator access. Try to rightclick the Steam shortcut and select 'Run as administrator', it might help.

When I do that, It makes a folder called steam library, then it says the folder must be writable.

I click "make new folder" then it makes a folder called steam in the root folder. Then it says "Unable to make Steam library"

as I edited above, are you running Steam in Administrator mode? If not try that.

Wow, can't believe I haven't tried that. I just tried it, and its still not working. Made a folder called steam, then used that to make it and the same "Failed to add new steam library folder"

Just went through the same problem. The "Failed to add new steam library folder" error seems to be caused by running a game, download or installation through Steam while creating trying to create the library. Stopping all of those fixed it for me.

I am pretty sure this discussion issue has been solved but since it's still around I'll type in what worked for me. Better late than never. :D

Exit the Steam Client.

Right click on your SSD > Select Properties > Select Security Tab > Select Edit > Select Users(Your Computer Name\Users) > Check The Allow Full Control Box > Apply. Restart your computer.

Run the Steam Client as Administrator and follow what Astaroth said.

Steam> Settings> Downloads> Steam Library Folders> Add library folder

You should now be able to install games on your SSD.

I forgot I posted this, but I believe I had a game running when I was trying, which caused this issue! So if anyone has any problems, make sure you have no Steam games running!
