There is no fix. Vista does not support Dx11.1
Neither does Win7.
I don't know what ELSE they are using that isn't available in Vista, but Vista with all Service Packs and the "platform upgrade" is almost a Win7 and even includes DX11. So there's a good chance that setting Win7 as minimum is just a dumb mistake by the developers...
Windows 7 supports DX11.1 via a Plaform Update, which is generally installed when you upgrade IE. DX11.1 is not supported on Vista.
note that the game uses UE4 so the DX11.1 requirement is likely an engine component from UE4 not something the devs coded in.
This is illogical because Vista 64-bit and Windows 7 64-bit use the same kernel. So does
Windows 8, for that matter. But, rather than fight it I'll just get a refund. The game appears to have been poorly constructed anyway if this many people are having this much trouble.
You not paying attention to the sys reqs is not a reason for a refund.
Talk to MS. They're the ones who don't support DX11.1 on Vista. That's their call. DX11.1 is not supported on Vista. That is because MS doesn't support it. Go complain to them.
Note like I said in your other thread, you can ask Support, but YOU are the one at fault here. YOU did not read the minimum system requirements. YOU are the one whos' system cannot run the game. That's not the dev's fault.
System requirements should be checked as a priority, it's always been that way, especially if you're using an old OS.
I've been gaming since playing "Myst" and "Riven" in the late '90's. My video card is capable of playing "Daylight", and even though Vista 64-bit runs on the SAME kernel as Win7 64-bit, it has pleased the game's developers to make it so that Win7 can run it, but (for reasons that make no sense to me) Vista 64 cannot. You describe Vista as being an "old" OS... but it is supported by Microsoft to this day, and the truth is that, with SP2, it is virtually indistinguishable from Win 7, or do you not agree...?
Truly, I have NEVER run into this situation before, and I've never had any difficulty playing any game, so long as my hardware system was up to the challenge. This is the first time I've had to deal with anything like this, and it is the LAST!
BTW, if this is all part of some kind of effort to shove people into buying Windows 8, it will fail. Me and and the rest of the world are already waiting to see what will be in the Beta of Windows 9, probably due this October. THEN I may migrate to a newer OS, because there will actually be a logical reason to do so! Have a nice day!
DX9 SM2.0 to Sm3.0 required a new video card for Bioshock.
Games are now increasingly supporting only 64-bit or DX11 only.
This isn't the first nor the last time you're going to have to actually UPGRADE your system to play games. Don't pretend like this is some kind of new phenomenon. It's not.
Your insistence on staying on an older platform is a problem of your own making.
And Vista is old. 7 years.
Support doesn't mean every new software will run.
Doesn't matter if you haven't run into such yet, but now you have. Software gets outdated just as much as hardware, you learn that the hard way.
Blame MS for not giving you the support you need to play that game, but don't come here complaining when you didn't read the requirements properly and then continue to complain about us telling you exactly that.
And also, the kernel is not the same, it's only similar. It went through some changes in Win 7 and 8.
