MSVCR80.dll is missing (please help)

I havnt done anything out of the ordinary but when i tried to play any game this morning a DXSETUP.exe system error has appeared. It wont let me copy and paste it i cant even click on it but the error is:
'C:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft.vc80.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.6910_none_d089c358442de345\MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. try reinstalling the program to fix this problem'
Any help to this problem will be greatly appreciated.

Not sure, but I'd try other remedies before doing that. Verify the integrity of your Steam install and Steam games. Reinstall Steam if necessary. Run a battery of antivirus/antimalware software over it. Run a system check for errors. Clean your registry. Run a disk check to check your hard disk. Heck even a rollback to a previous save point in Windows would be a better option than a full reinstall. Good luck.

One other thing, do an internet search for the exact error you're getting/file you're missing, sometimes the answers to these things can be found on tech forums.

Now that I think of it, it could be Direct X that needs to be reinstalled, also give that a whirl as it's a much less painful process than a Windows reinstall. ;)

Hello there, no you don't need to reinstall windows. You need to install vcredist. Go to your game folder (in steamapps) and then open the folder called redist. Install vcredist and post back here to see if the problem is fixed.

apprently all the files in that redist folder are corrupted and unreadable how do i reinstall vcredist if i cannot open the reinstall program is there a way to get it off the internet safely?

to make sure that all the damage and obstacles removed:
1 delete antivirus if have an AV (except MSE)
2 uninstall installed vc_redists (optional)
3 scan pc for viruses from liveCD
4 scan hdd for errors

5 delete broken folders
6 check game cache
7 run steam as administrator, run game and install
8 re-boot and run Windows Update http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc708617%28v=ws.10%29.aspx
