Also, dunno which Logitech you got, but I would recommend to prefer X-Box styled layout over the PS one, that works just better.
Shortly after I got my gamepad I decided that you actually CAN play games with that, and that the next HTPC upgrade will make it able to handle games.
Since then, I've been using the gamepad for pretty much everything that has gamepad-support, just to get used to it. I do prefer playing 3rd person games with the pad by now, although there have been and still are problems. Haven't tried 1st person yet, but that's on "ToDo" as well.
In Darksiders, I'm stuck at the first boss due to control-issues. This has been the first 3rd person game I tried, though, so I might just go back, practice a bit to get used to it again, and then try again. Or maybe try mouse/keyboard for that boss. I'll have to see.
Before that, I was redoing a certain level again and again, forever failing to get the achievement for killing a certain number of enemies there. Finally, I switched to the mouse just to get that.
In "Tomb Raider Anniversary", I actually used a cheat program to get past ONE acrobatics section that I just couldn't manage. There is still at least one other section that I couldn't manage yet, but that is just for an artifact -- which is a non-essential collectible, so no need to cheat there.
I had no such problems on "Batman Arkham Asylum" or "Prince of Persia 2008", beyond my usual lack of button mashing skills. Currently playing Psychonauts, which seems to work fine too.
In fact, the biggest problem I generally have isn't with specific types of games -- it's with all control schemes that require me to press 2 buttons (blue/green or orange/red) at the same time. That just never works unless I can use the left hand to help, which isn't always possible.
