Can't use F12 to take screenshots

What should I do? When I press F12, all it does is make the screen brighter, as it usually does.

Does your computer's keyboard have some sort of "F-Lock" function. Where your Function keys do other things (like display brightness) unless you engage the "F-Lock"?

I'm not sure. The only button on the keyboard that looks like what you're talking about is Fn, though I'm not sure that's what you meant.

Depends on the keyboard. Some don't have it, some do.

The ones that do usually have other non standard functions tied to the Function keys, ones to control features of your computer.

Well, that only leaves you to setting another shortcut.

Does the game have a command bound to F12. You can also rebind Steams screenshot key in settings to see if that fixes the problem.

Are you trying this(screenshot) while in game or just trolling ?

I used a keybored where esc and f1-f12 could only be used while the fn key was held, otherwise it'd adjust the brightness, volume, etc. Could be the same case with yours.

I think you're right. I'll try to do this and post my results here.

EDIT: OK, so I tried doing what you said, and while it didn't take a screenshot, it didn't adjust the brightness. So I think I'm on the right track, but I'm not sure.

It's VVVVVV. I don't think it has control options.

Yeah, the steam settings say that the screenshot button is F12. I could change it, but I don't want to put in a button where there is a in-game command, if that makes sense. However, the screenshot folder is filled with .vvvvvv files. Are those screenshots? Because if they were, I can't access them in Steam.

EDIT: Never mind, those are maps.

VVVVVV does not have Steam Overlay for some reason.
