Is this only an issue with Assassin's Creed 4?

Being a laptop, go to your power and performance options and make it is set to performance. Laptops have the option to reduce performance to extend battery life.

Also make sure you have your laptop plugged in to AC power to improve performance.

Drivers up to date, etc.

Nice laptop. I have an MSi GE70 myself. Good computers.

Make sure your laptop is connected to the AC adaptor. If it is and it's still lagging then your Nvidia settings aren't setup right. Go to Nvidia's control panel and make sure in Global Settings you have "auto-select" enabled. If it's alrady enabled then click "Nvidia high-performance processor" like this:

make sure your using the latest graphical drivers.

Also, try tuning the windows power option to high performance.

You should also get the latest driver for your graphics card. http://www.geforce.com/drivers

Actually, do you have geforce expereince optimizing the games? Because I was having issues with portal 2 when optimizing it with geforce expereince. However, that was when it was in beta.

Is your laptop still under warranty? Maybe you should take it in to have it looked at.

Do you have ShadowPlay enabled? It only accounts for a 10% decrease in frame-rate on average, but disabling it could help a little.
