Cant play cs 1.6 on Win 8.1 Pro :(

Please somebody tell me the solution i cant play cs 1.6 since i installed win 8.1 pro :(

can u explain the problem ? i'm on windows 8.1 pro x64 and still playing CS 1.6 normally, can u detail your hardware/software configuration ?

Actually before i was using win Xp and my cs 1.6 steam was working absolutely perfect but just now i updated my OS to Win 8.1 pro and when i am trying to play cs 1.6 now it starts to lag alot and gives error that cant play in this video mode so you will have to play this in software mode and fps down to 6 and 7fps lagging like hell cant really play

I have HP desktop P4 2.93GHz 1gb of ram and 320gb of hard disk 17 inch Hp monitor

Try the compatibility mode as admin. I couldn´t start it properly, so I used this way...
And be sure you start the game always as admin (look for the option in the properties
right click-->compatibility-->change properties for all users-->launch as admin)

Simply, install the game program. Then before running it, right click the EXE file or the icon on your desktop. A window will pop-up, go to Compatibility. You should see “Compatibility Mode.” Tick Run this Program in compatibility mode and choose Windows XP (Service Pack 2). You can also choose Service Pack 3 or even older versions of Windows. This is a matter of trial and error until the game will run smoothly.

Click APPLY and run the game. You should be able to play the game now with the latest version of Windows. If you don’t change compatibility, Counter Strike will never run on Windows 8.1.

HI, one question to your solution. Which .exe do you mean? The hl.exe in the steam folder? As on the desktop I only have a link, where I cannot change the compatibility mode, in it's properties.

Does other games lag like counter strike? Maybe the problem is that you installed the Windows 8 without caring about system requirements.

No I don't think that's the problem. I play games with way higher system requirements like Call of Duty etc. My system is a Quad Core Q9400 @ 2.66Ghz Processor, 4GB DDR3 RAM and an ATI Radeon HD 4800.
