Then again, they took their time getting involved with the second one as well...
Probably because world war 1 was too "boring" for many games to be made. Terrible weapons, terrible tech, and absolutely mundane trench warfare. Lots of lives was lost simply because it was just a bum rush to see which side will run out of men to throw out in to the front lines.
If WW1 was turned in to a game it'll just be hours of endlessly rushing and trying to stab the enemy with bayonets while enemy back-ups take pot shots at you with incredibly inaccurate fire arms.
World war 2 was when things got interesting with much better technology and options for warfare tactics.
