Lag on a extremely good gaming PC that I need to fix
Alright guys this is my first time ever asking for help. I have asked help from technical support but I decided to come to the community this time.
Anyways I have a really good gaming laptop. I mean really good and I am not trying to brag.
My specs are:
4.2 - 4.5 GHz Overclocked Quad core Processor
670m gpu
32gb of Ram
and 2, 1TB SSD hardrives.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So my specs are really good. But I have been having horrible lag on games that I never use to have. Crysis and Crysis warhead for example. I use to be able to run the games at a stable 60+ frames per second with every thing maxed out. Now I get about 10fps with everything maxed out.
A few more examples:
Bastion: I use to get over 200 fps now I get only 20
Guns of Icarus: I use to get about 100 with everything maxed now I get 4
Minecraft: I use to get over 500 fps and now I get only 30
Deadspace: I use to get 300 now I only get 24 and it drops in areas with particles even with everything on low.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have been having to set all my games on low lately and I should not be having to do this with such a good gaming machine. I have cleaned out the fans, put thermal paste on the GPU and everything but it just won't play games anywhere near like it use to. I have even tried finding other forums or discussions to see if others are having the same problem but I can't quite find any that are like the one I am having. I don't know if my laptop is not detecting it's GPU but I need to find out the source of the problem.
Another thing that I have noticed is my computer use to only use .31gb of ram and 1% of my CPU whenever I was not doing anything but browsing youtube. Now it uses about 6GB of ram and 10 to 15% of my CPU so that is another problem I have noticed. I have virus software. I have Malware Antibytes and Avast. I have paid for both of them and I have them do scans every day to check if I have any Viruses. Also I never go to any places or click any links that could possible give me viruses. I only brows Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, and Steam or official gaming websites. If anyone could please help me with this issue it would be greatly appreciated.
Warm regards Dante

My first thought would be Nvidia Optimus is not working correctly.

The part where you mention the particle effects causing further lag would suggest that the IGP is doing the rendering rather than the Nvidia GPU.

Are you using the latest official drivers?

Yes I am using the most recent drivers. I check them every day to see if there is a update cause I know how nvidia tries to give the best possible experience when gaming.

Yes the slowdowns are very noticable when gaming. It's only when I am gaming that my framerate drops down. On games as well that it should not even slowdown on. Also I can't run games in my native resolution (1920x1080) when gaming or I get extreme lag. I have been having to run games in (1280x720) or lower.

Try using this tool to determine which GPU is being used while gaming. If it's the Intel one then the problem is with your driver configuration.

The tool is not working properly. It says it is not compatible with my GPU
