Steam Client Won't Update?
Hey guys,

Just a quick question, I was checking out my Steam client build date and found out that it said Feb 25 (screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/D9C0bCA.jpg). Now I'm guessing that this isn't the latest build as it's over a month old, but when I check for client updates it tells me my Steam client is already up-to-date. I've already tried turning off Windows Firewall and restarting Steam but it doesn't seem to change anything.

Any suggestions on what I can do to or how I can force Steam to update itself?

you could reinstall it but you might want to back up your games first

Thanks but I'm trying to avoid reinstalling as much as I can. If there aren't any other options available I'll just have to do to it but for now I'm trying to find what else I could do to fix this.

Have you tried refreshing your Steam install?

Did nobody think to check the client update notes before suggesting drastic action? http://store.steampowered.com/news/?feed=steam_client

Feb 25th is the most recent non-beta version.

That's weird because I asked someone on my friends list to check if their client had the same date as mine did, and he told me it was a more recent one. Can you maybe check on your own account to see if yours is Feb 25th as well?

After following the steps and running Steam using steam://flushconfig it said 'Updating Steam information' or something along those lines, but I still have the same exact client. Kind of a weird how-to because their asking you to launch Steam directly from the installation folder after restarting your system, but my Steam just automatically signs me in on start-up. I know I could disable this, but still.

@aiusepsi: Refreshing the Steam install is not drastic at all. In fact, it can free up space by removing old cache files. It's also different from reinstalling Steam because game installs are unaffected.

Besides that, you are right though. If you are not in the beta, you are up to date and the latest build is Feb 25. If you are in the beta, the latest build is Apr 2.

Oh wow you're absolutely right, just enabled the beta update participation and after restarting Steam it immediately began downloading the update from April 2nd. Problem solved!
