Any source on that??? I've recently switched to the Detroit servers and I'm having much more consistent (and fast) download speeds.
I would love to know. There are so many Columbuses(?), and there's no info on which one it is.
It's Ohio. There are a lot of Columbus cities, but Columbus, Ohio is a major city and Capital of a state. I can tell it's Ohio because I live here and my download speed quadrupled from the Detroit, New York, and Chicago servers.

idk where @Shadey got his info, but it's way wrong.

I got my info from one of the tech support people at the time. IF it's wrong then it's wrong. I can't validate how viable their statement was anymore.

Asked Steam Support about this:

Hello,

Thanks for bringing your inquiry to Steam Support. I'd like to offer a bit of information regarding download region.

The Steam content system is broken down into geographic regions. If you see US - Columbus, it is referring to Columbus, Ohio. The Steam client automatically detects the current locale and uses the content servers in it for best performance. Sometimes servers in a particular region may experience slowdown, overhead, or hardware failure, resulting in download problems. It is advisable to temporarily switch to one region to use another set of content servers.

To change the download region, go to: Steam → Settings → Downloads → Download Region. You may need to test multiple regions that are not yours.

Hopefully this answers your question. Let me know if you need anything clarified.

Cheers,
Ollie
