System Restore for windows

So every week I have to do a "System Restore" on my PC because it won't start up. Yes, I've looked for online help and I've been to various PC-repair stations, nothing seemed to work, and imma get a new computer as soon as I can, just can't afford one yet. I've come to just deal with it.

Now just a while ago i got Total War: Rome 2 and installed it, all the ~20gigabites, started playing yesterday. Today I had to do a System Restore again, and for some reason I have to download 4 gigabites of "updates" for Rome 2... even though System Restore says it doesn't change anything to files on my computer - doesn't that mean the files are already downloaded? I was just wondering if there is a way I can get around this problem... It would be pretty cool.

System restore doesn't affect files in your user folder, but it will reset the registry. My guess is the game is downloading its registry entries, but 4GB does seem like a lot.

Out of curiosity, what happens when your computer fails to boot up? What exactly does it do?

yeah i thought 4 is quite a lot too. what happens is it gets stuck in the startup screen. uk how in windows 7 the windows-sign kinda glows on/off during startup? it just freezes, then i gotta force-shut-down pc and then often system restore

Perhaps the event logs will tell us what is going on.

• When it gets stuck on the logo, force shut down
  
• Boot into safe mode[windows.microsoft.com]
  
• Login and open the Event Viewer (Start > type event > click Event Viewer)
  
• On the left, select Windows Logs > System
  
• Click the header of the Date and Time category and wait for it to sort the events.
  
• Scroll through the logs (or use Ctrl+F) to find the most recent instance of event ID 6009, immediately followed by 6005. This pair of events indicates restart and successful boot-up.
  
• Now look at the events that occurred before this pair of events. Are there any labeled as warning or error? If so, please post the source, event ID, and description.

OK so it happened again now after a long time of no problems. i can't start pc up in safe mode after i force-shut down it when it freezes on the Windows Startup Logo, the only options that appear are: Start Windows normally or Run Windows Startup Repair. it took about 2 hours of rebooting etc etc before the pc started running properly again, and i've gone back to look at some of the events that happened before 6009/6005:

- critical: Kernel Power, ID: 41, The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.
^it's one i see a lot after the 6009/6005 pair

- error: Service Control Manager, ID: 7026, The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
acedrv06

- error: EventLog, ID: 6008, The previous system shutdown at 2:04:55 PM on ‎4/‎6/‎2014 was unexpected.

- warning: k57nd60a, ID: 4, Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet: The network link is down. Check to make sure the network cable is properly connected.

Some games have their current version and patch info in the registry.
If that is the case then after system restore, Rome2 thinks it is the old version still and redownloading the updates again.

U are obviously having driver related issues judging by those error msgs.

First I would run diagnostics software on the RAM and HDD(s) to ensure those are in working order and your drive data is not corrupted, or drive has bad sectors. As either of those can create errors that look driver related when in fact it's something else, like faulty hardware actually causing a driver fault to occur.

I would say this is the source of the problem. Now we just need to find which driver is "acedrv06". Maybe it is an Acer product?

OK, so, this time when I did the system restore, nothing happened to the game - which I find pretty nice xD

Astartes - yea, i have an Acer, and Bad-Motha, yea i think i'll do that again, but i dnno how much it'll help

From looks of this (and yes I know there are plenty of false-positives out there) it COULD be a malware infection of some sort.

Disregard the Win7 reference, as it could potentially effect any Windows OS.

open the pc and make cleaning the parts, then boot into safe mode and change the programs that start with the windows

Yes try a clean boot via MSCONFIG

Make sure you kill the respective processes before unchecking them in msconfig.

This will help to show u (and understand) how to perform a clean boot via MSCONFIG.
Where u are basically selecting not to run any 3rd party startup apps, as a means of troubleshooting.

This is a massive bulls*it from microsoft , it says everytime that the pc is not working properly and he needs to restore the files to a point when the windows considers your pc was working fine. When does this happen? When your hard disk is almost full(Deletes all your recently installed applications) or when you dont close your pc properly(Deletes all your recently installed applications).There are ways to disable this from happening, but i dont really accept entering my windows files and changing the windows settings while i dont know any f*cking s*it about restoring it to its original state.
