Password Reset Key: Don't match Username.
I really need help with this...

I need to open a Steam Support ticket, but I've forgotten my password to my Steam Account - the one that you access not with your Steam Client but from your browser - so I applied for a password reset which was sent by mail to my email address which I found, opened it and clicked the link that takes you to the password resetting site.

The password resetting process consists of four fields. 1. You fill in your username; 2. You fill in the Password Reset Key - it's usually already typed in for you, but in case the Reset Key isn't already filled in a msg. tells you how to find and copy the Reset Key from the email and enter it manually.

I've gone through this process 11 times, 2 times the day before last, 5 times yesterday, and 4 times today.

Every single time I received the msg that an email with instructions and a Password Reset Key was sent to my email address, and every single time I found the email and followed the link and the instructions given in both mail and on the Pasword Resetting page (you can view the form here: https://support.steampowered.com/reset.php)...

And every time I receive a msg. telling me...
quote:
_____________________________________________________________________

There were the following errors. Please make the necessary changes and resubmit.

The username and reset key do not match.

Please check the reset email you received.
_____________________________________________________________________

It doesn't make sense because not only were the Reset Key numbers already entered every single time I tried to complete this procedure, the reset keys were correct (I checked the Reset Password mail each time, so I know this for a fact). - I even tried deleting the pre-entered reset key numbers and manually typed them in, but without any luck.

Since this has been going on over the course of not only one, but three days, each of them with hours in between each try (except for the first day where I tried three times to re-start the process immediately after each attempt), I can't see how I can be the reason why the process keeps failing to complete successfully.

I am posting this here because my very problem is about how to get in contact with Steam/Steam Support, and since I can't seem to do that I've found this to be the only option I have left, and it is so sad because I fear it'll bring me zero results.

My hope is that somebody, if not a Steam employee, then a fellow Steam member with Steam features know-how will take the time to reply to this post with some advice or guide me to a solution.

I know it's quite long, but I had to include necessary info and couldn't see any way to make it shorter. So...

Thanks in advance for reading this long post - any piece of advice is very much appreciated.

The Steam Support ticket system uses a seperate login. You'll need to register a whole new account to start a ticket.

I'm aware that it uses a separate login, you have two Steam usernames and passwords, one for your Steam Client/Launcher and one for purposes such as submitting support tickets). I've submitted a few Support Tickets in the past and know how it works. There's no prompting me to create a new account.

I think you've misunderstood my problem because I find it hard to believe that I have to create a new account every time I need to submit a another support ticket.

But thanks for your response.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

But I've had no trouble with logging in via the Steam Client or playing the games I've already downloaded and/or registered.

I only have problems with logging into my secondary account which is different from the Steam Client and necessary if you have problems with Steam features not working and need to submit a Support Ticket.

You're right, I misunderstood your problem. Sorry about that.
I thinking of taking Quazimortal's advice and create a completely new account and submit a ticket from there. At least it might get me in touch with some Steam personnel while as it is now I'm completely cut off.

No problem. You may have given me an idea to how I can get on and eventually have this issue solved. :)
Glad to have accidently helped in that case! :D

Lol. I'll check back with how it works out.
I'm having the exact same trouble now. I've got a steam support account but I don't know my username.

Did anyone solve this problem? Because when I try to reset my password I get the exact same message, which leaves me completely stuck. How do I recover my username for steam support ?
