It means they are Away/Snoozing/Busy/Online.

Click on your friend list in the lower corner of the client, and then click on the drop down arrow next to your name ontop of the friend list.

Okay... So use google, translate the words to your native language or use a dictionary (your english-[Insert your language] )

Can anyone give me an answer along the lines. For example

Away = no activity within Steam for 5 min.
Snooze = no activity within Steam for 1 hour or more.
Busy = activity within Steam of the type xxxxx

You can pretty much change them yourself. If you saw TirithRR post, you can change your status. So there is not an ammount of time, I know that if Away usually means their computer is on standby or afk

Away: Either set by the person himself, or a few min afk.
Snooze: The persons PC is on snooze mode.
Busy: Can only be set by the person himself

I would like to know how/when Steam triggers them automatically. Or are they all manually set?

Thanks. So Snooze is when the PC has gone into sleep mode?

Again, snooze triggers when your steam app registers that your pc is snoozing.
Away can be set by yourself or that you have been inactive on your pc for some minutes.
Busy is only set by yourself.

Edit; Yes, snooze is only when your pc is in sleep mode and can be woken up by the click of the mouse or something.

No Snooze is activated when u are away for more then 2 or 3 hours. Snooze may also be activated when your computer is on sleep/snooze mode but not sure. I know this for a fact because i have been away from my computer with it fully powered up for multiple hours and have come back with my screen on and my friends list pulled up showing my status as Snooze

Wow some of you are either total ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ or total ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ or both. Because you know I came here to ask what the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ work "Busy"means. ♥♥♥♥ You
They mean what they say, they're set by the user manually.
