Card Declined when trying to buy a game

I have a 50 dollar AmEx prepaid card. I've been trying to buy games but there's always an error:

"Your purchase has not been completed. Your credit card information has been declined by your credit card company.

Note that in some cases, your credit card company may put a 'hold' on funds in your account, but you will not be charged. After correcting any errors in the information displayed below, please try your purchase again."

All the information I put in is correct (checked typing). Why does this keep happening?

VALVE JUST TAKE MY MONEY AND LET ME GET GAMES.

I try to register an account with the card but then it directs me to the phone number on the back of the phone which is just to check balance. gg AmEx

Nothing should involve a telephone call. I've received pre-paid AmEx cards in the past and used them on Steam. The registration is done entirely on the website. If you're picking up a phone, you're doing it wrong. OP and I were talking about two different kinds of cards.

Then you can register online and without a telephone call. I can't tell you the exact URL since I don't have an AmEx gift card handy but am 100% sure the URL is on the back of the card.

You first login with the card and the CVV. That gets you onto their website. From there, you should find a "Register Your Card" button somewhere that allows you to specify your name and mailing address.

It goes into effect immediately and you can purchase from the Steam Store immediately after registering. OP and I were talking about two different kinds of cards.

The only thing that's there is americanexpress.com/mygiftcard or call 877-297-4438.

So follow the URL. Login with CC# and CVV. After that, you should see a Register button somewhere on that site. OP and I were talking about two different kinds of cards.

No register. It just says "My Account Overview". The only thing that is a button on it is "Logout"

Looks like we are talking about two different kinds of cards. Google-fu says this about your card:

Note: You cannot register your card?s billing address online. You have to call AMEX Gift Card Customer Service at 1.877.AXP.GIFT to register an address to the card.

So, apologies are in order. I am sorry about the mixup.
