Windows Vista. OK For Steam????
I just got done migrating off of Windows XP Professional to Windows Vista SP2 Home Premium and for the most part I'm happy about it. I originally upgraded the OS due to Microsoft's discontinuance of Windows XP this April and I noticed a few games I wanted did not list XP as an initial supported OS. However I notice too that Vista is slowly being outed too where some games it requires Windows 7 minimum. Thoughts?

I know this thread is OLD... I know the topic/product it's centered around is also OLD! ...
But I'm bringing THIS back, because IT's ALL I GOT right now.

Will Windows Vista Still Support the Steam Client DOWNLOAD?
IF so, will having Windows Vista Support Civ V? I have V in my library... as anyone will see, I've played it for LONG time! It was a favorite of mine...

Anyone looking at my profile page will also see... I had a Laptop with Windows 10 about 6-8 or more months ago, but it finally crashed. Probably my fault as I tinkered with overclocking settings and what not a few too many times.

After the computer crashed, my Dad gave me one of his older laptops which he says still works. Indeed it does, but it will ONLY support Windows Vista! I tried to Upgrade to higher windows, and I was told the Processor/video will only support the OS it's currently at, Vista HP 64x bit.

Which, for the most part, all this is fine. Uptil a few days ago... I never considered putting Steam on my computer, or even thought of any of my Steam games... though I miss the access. I been keeping busy with browser support games, Good Games Empire and TankiOnline for instance. So... I been fine without Steam and my steam games.

UNTIL this weekend, an old friend of mine WHOM i know in person also has Civ V on his computer and invited me over after we haven't seen each other in long time... so There I am at his place enjoying the Reminiscence of my ol favorite of many years... playing Civ V on a hotseat game... and it revived in me a desire to continue playing on my own...

So my dilema... My new but old computer has Vista and only supports. My old computer has crashed and won't work. The ONLY other access I have to better computers... my public Library, where I go often despite having my old computer. These library computers run faster.

Problem is, I can't DOWNLOAD/INSTALL Steam Client on the library computer beacuse administrative restrictions won't allow me... SO accessing Steam through the Browser access... It won't let me access my Library on Steam. I tried going to the main Game page, Civ V... and it even says... "You already own this in your library" and it has optional button RIGHT there on the store page for Civ V... "INSTALL" and/or "PLAY"... so I just try choosing PLAY, but Nothing Happens!

Any Advise? Thanks in advance.

There is NO POINT to upgrade yet at all, although it entirely depends on your situation. Hvae you just built this PC, intending it to last several years? If you have, then you might wish to consider it.

But some of the comments here are ridiculous. One of my PCs I use frequently runs Vista, and how many of my 700+ games run with it? Every one. The same as my Windows 7 machines.

Yes, Vista support is intended to finish by 2017, but that would still mean it can be used long after that. It really depends on you.
