South Park: Stick of Truth, Steam refuses to download it??
It's getting very frustrating.

I have the PC copy of the game, and the first time I put it in Steam has a problem with simply starting (Something about servers being offline). I had to download it from the website. Then, everything goes alright until I enter my code and finally start /downloading/ the game.

I didn't use the disk at first, and tried to let Steam download it for me, but it refused to go past 3%, and never goes above 17.5 kb/s.

So I tried it with the disk, and it went up to 93%, but was basically stuck there. The highest it's gotten is 97%, before the 'operation timed out'. When it times out, it says beside the game, "Update required", even though there are no updates and I have updated Steam more then a few times.

This isn't a question of my computer download speed. My speed is fine, actually kind of fast. But it's that Steam hates me, or something, I don't know. I'm getting so worked up, I've been awake until 1am for the past two night just trying to get /something/ to work, but it doesn't, and I also find it a little stupid how Steam doesn't have a support number I could call right away.

I HAVE TRIED THE FOLLOWING:

-Uninstalled/ reinstalled both Steam and the disk (each time I start steam, it updates, so whats the deal?)
- Changed my server region
- renamed the "ClientRegistry" blob to "ClientRegistryOld"
-Deleted one of the folders (The name slips my mind, but it starts with an A)
-Made sure my computer was at maximum dl speed.
- Tried to update the game, but again, there are no updates, so I'm not sure why it keeps giving me this message.
- 'pausing' and 'unpausing' my download. just makes it worse.
- flushed and refreshed my downloads from Window's run.

Again, it won't go above 17.5 kb/s, which is bullroar because it's normally up in the 1- 2 MB/s area. I've looked around, and apparently this is just an issue with Steam.

Please help. I've waited over a year for this game to come out, I can't believe I have to deal with this mess, I'm getting so discouraged it's not even funny. Much appreciated.

Cheers,
Lucas

Try chaning your download region to farther away and see if that helps. Even to a different contry.

Also check your anti-virus, as this is a common problem wehre your AV basicaly obliterates teh file

If you know a friend that has the game downloaded then just grab the files off of him/her and stick em in your steam files. Steam was apparently a bit buggy today so it could just be temporary.

No, none of that seems to work. Steam support sent me a reply email telling me to delete everything but the application/ steamapp/ and userdata files. I did that, but still nothing. It's now stuck on 53%, and is giving me the "update required" message more than before.

I tried maybe installing the game on my family's older vista desktop, but it was never able to get past 3%, either. I'm so stumped, this is getting ridiculous.

thank you so much for your help, though. I appreciate it!!
Also, do you think it would be possible to completley remove the game from steam, list and all, and try to enter everything again? Would it still accept my serial number?
Did you make sure whatever firewall your computer is using has made an exception for Steam?

Also please review the following.

I'm using Norton, and for now I have the smart firewall turned off (since it never really gives me a blacklist/ exception option).
Have you attempted to refresh your Steam files as per the link I gave you? Give that a go first before attempting anything further.

I used to have Norton and it was nothing but problems. What I would attempt to do is take it off automatic startup and restart your computer. Log into Steam and attempt the download again and see if any progress is made. Change your startup settings back to your current default and restart after the download finishes.

Keep in mind this is just my opinion but that's what I would do myself. Do so at your own risk.
I've tried refreshing my files twice, and I tried it again when you reccomended it from pure hope. Still nothing.

I understand, though. Norton gives me a headache most of the time. I guess I'll leave it over night and see if it times out again (a little weak, but I'm desperate a this point)

Tomorrow I'll see if I can get anything done. Again, thank you so much for trying to help. you rock, dude.
Update: IT FINALLY DOWNLOADED

I'm not sure how, or why, but when I woke up this morning the speed bumped up to 1.2 mb/s. I left it on while I went to school, and when I came home it was ready to play?

this might not solve the problem for anyone else, but all I did was install all the windows updates, restart, and put on sleep mode for the night.
Quizas sea eso , faltaban las actualizaciones de windows o algo asi

im still having problem with mines not only is it stuc but it also stops responding and closes on its own so i cant just leave it alone
Here are a couple things to try:

1. https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3134-TIAL-4638

2. Switch to or from the beta client.

3. run the Steam installer again.

4. Uninstall Steam (after backing up the games you still want) and reinstall it.

No but I would double check and make sure your temp/downloading folder is empty before trying to download it again.
