mic not working. (Picking up in game audio instead of voice.)
So the other day my mic stops working. I test the plugs. Audio works fine. The computer recognizes it plug in so I gues the plugs fine. Earlier today it works again no reson given. Try it again and its broke. The mic seems to be picking up in game noise instead of my voice. So I guess its a software issue? How might I go about fixing this?

Is the mic connected by red and white phono leads? are is it usb and small jack?

Iv had the same problem in the past with the red and white phono leads.
Control Panel > Sounds > Recording.

Check what's your default recording device.
^ This, then go to your Steam Client > Steam (tab at top) > Settings > Voice.

You will probably find this stuck on 'What U Hear (Recorder)'... make sure the device is plugged in and click 'Detect Audio Devices' to detect it if a new connection. Else 'Change Device' will shortcut to your Control Panel > Sounds > Recording to set.

'Test Microphone' there in your Steam Client and adjust the volume. If you have a habit of unplugging the headset/mic each time, this might reset itself.
There is also a setting within Steam Client Settings for Voice.
> Auto Transmit my voice as I speak
> Press a key to Transmit my voice

If you are playing with external speakers, and u have the first setting selected, then most likely whatever coming out of your speakers is being recorded by the mic and sent out in-game as your voice.

And whatever is set as your Default Recording Device in Windows, is what you need to set as the recording device in Steam settings, as well as in-game if a game has such an option. Otherwise it may be defaulted to something else.
