Windows XP SP3

For the life of me I can not figure out why steam will not run on it, all steam will do is say connecting to my user account but just hangs and stops responding and/or on the taskbar there are tabs for steam but you can't open them. I need some help on this problem, also when I use VMware Player under windows 7, running xp it will start steam in that but when XP is it's own install nothing works.

try Run in Compatibility Mode Windows XP SP3 + Run as Administrator or
try Run in virtual machines: Virtual Box, VMware Workstation, Virtual PC
VMware player not support OpenGL only VMware Workstation try use Virtual Box - it's free and have better support OpenGL

Tri-boot sir so don't try to be smart, does not make a difference, @Muppet I have XP Pro SP3 32bit and still won't work and @Seven7 tried compatibility mode and still wouldn't work but when ran under vmplayer they would work but they ran like garbage but I guess I will give virtual box a go to see if there is any improvements since XP standalone is acting a foo.

Just testing virtual box now and look it works under a VM so why won't steam run under the standalone version of xp???

xp support is falling so you should go to vista, 7 or 8.1 now

As stated before there are some editors that only work under XP but I would like to use steam and install my games before hand to be used on xp, I have a tri-boot system consisting of XP Pro SP3, Windows 7 ultimate 64bit SP1, and Windows 8.1

Okay fine the Brothers in Arms Editors only run under xp or vista but vista is a waste of time. I have the editors running fine under VM but when I boot into XP out of a VM Steam itself won't even load up properly.

And once more confirmed the editors load up under virtualbox but they don't run correctly let alone load completely at least under vmware player I was able to use the editor and the windows displayed correctly but was slow so virtualbox is trash as well.

Try to start xp, no vm, what happens?

XP runs smoothly but steam will not load at all and I keep on getting connecting to my account and then steam stops responding.

xp is still listed as OS on the steam page so I doubt it stoped working on XP.
its also not going to stop working april 8.
