Windows XP SP3

For the life of me I can not figure out why steam will not run on it, all steam will do is say connecting to my user account but just hangs and stops responding and/or on the taskbar there are tabs for steam but you can't open them. I need some help on this problem, also when I use VMware Player under windows 7, running xp it will start steam in that but when XP is it's own install nothing works.

It's likely that your winsock stack in xp is borked, or that your local firewall is blocking it. Or it could be driver issues with your botherboatrd too.

Again the problem with XP is that it crashes at the mere sight of a dust particle. So it's really hard to figure out 'what' is the issue. It could be anything which is the problem.

Since it only manifests itself when you boot XP, and not when you do a virtual session, to me that seems like the XP parition is borked somehow. That could be due to bad drivers for you motherboard, or networking drivers, or anything else really.

Well I tried what you said and still no go but here is the process I take - Fitrst I double click steam icon, steam starts to connect ot my account then a new windows pops up saying "updating steam information" then it goes back to connecting and then crash.
