Old games and incomplete information about Supported OS on steam (UpToDate)

I want to buy and play this games (there are more but this is an example only).

My operating system is Win.VISTA. I'm pretty sure that these games work on my OS but steam recommendation Supported OS says otherwise.(scroll down)

So I only buy the old game if it says it supports my OS. My question is whether I can freely (group 1. and 2.) buy these games and guarantee that it will work on Vista or more??!?

I have played.
Farcry 1.
Max Payne 1 and 2.
Rainbow six vegas 2.

What I can't play is Scarface .

you can change the icon in win7 to "run as" an older system - you can also download "dosbox" to run even older games - or just copy files from an old system (game wiull tell you files it can't find) until it runs - I am running Galaxian on Windows 7 (because I can) - so it is possible...

Wish they could do what GOG does & make them work with newer OSs. The game in your list may have a way to make them work. the steam community had a fix for fallout 3 that got it to work with win7 so ask them.

i have only Vista and don't have space on my hdd, need to buy now one

I hope sincerely, but I doubt that ... luckily there is a GOG
