Can I play multiplayer with this speed?
Hey Guys,

My download speed on steam is 72 Kbps tops(Yet speedtest hits 500kbps down). Is this speed capable of playing multiplayer?
I'm planning to get CSGO, L4D2 and probably any COD if it's on super sale.

Here are my specs:

AMD A8-6600k (stock speed)
MSI A75 based motherboard
Crucial Balistix Elite 8GB 1866mhz CL9
1TB Western Digital Caviar Blue
Seasonic 520 S12 II

I'm running this in a 1366x768 monitor

Thanks,

Depends really on the distance to the server with that speed. Probably with people who live nearby.

I neveer neded more than 7kb/s up and down in the games I play online.

Distance and speed is not related.

About the speedtest:
70kByte download is like 560kbit. So that fits.

I would recommend to buy the cheapest of the games you want to have anyway, and test how it works online. I would expect it to work.

I beg to differ though. I'd try to avoid higher latency servers, if closer servers had any risk of lagging due to a slower internet connection.

I wouldn't connect to US servers for example on a 3G stick, if I had the option to use a wired RJ-45 connection for it.

I'm from Philippines, my connection is wired. By the way, I have VPN service. Whenever I use it my down goes 3.5mbps(on speed test, but on steam download it's the same), the problem is my ping hits 380ms. when I'm not using VPN my down is 500kbps and my ping is 15ms. When I tested the VPN it was routed to Eastern side of US.

Got it man, thanks for informing. I never knew that. I'll just try to buy whatever is the cheapest multiplayer to test my speed.

Hey man, How did you check that your multiplayer requirement didint hit more than 7kbps up and down? Maybe I can try that too.

back in 2004 my provider limited my connection to 7kb/s up and down if over the limit.
that prompted me to look into it.
dod1.3 took 3 to 4 kb/s and using a mic was another 3kb/s
my ping was unchanged from my normal speeds it played a 100% the same.

I used a few tools like netlimiter or just the net_graph commands ingame.
