What is a WHM file?
Alright.. I'm trying to move my steam directory to a larger drive, a process that is taking hours because of the hundreds of gigs in my file, but it has occasionally been running into files that when it tries to copy them freezes up my while system for minuntes then throws an error stating that said file is secured and cannot be copied.. All the file names consist of a 4 digit number followed by the file suffix .WHM... The first one was 5136.WHM.. When I told to try again it didn't error out on that one but rather 5139.WHM, then on third try, 5140.WHM, so I started trying to research what the heck a WHM file is as well as find the offending files on my system to unlock them, or basically try to deal with whatever is keeping them from being copied and this is where it gets really confusing.

To begin with, in a google search I can't find squat for an *.WHM file. Infact the only thing I can find WHM standing for at all is some fringe program out there called WebHost Manager but all I can find about it are forum posts trying to find plugins for it and nothing on the program itself.

On top of that, Windows cannot find these files anywhere on my system when I look for them. Not a single file ending in .WHM.

At this point I've decided it's some sort of a fluke or something running that is using temporary cache files with that file suffix, but this should not be happening in my Steam Directories when Steam isn't even running, nor any program launched with steam.

So, at this point I have decided that if the copying keeps running into these files, I am just skipping them, because clearly they are only appearing in the directory for seconds and are probably failing to copy because they are gone before the copier ever gets to trying to copy them and they aren't there to be copied, thus the long lagtimes, searching the whole drives for the elusive files, etc... And I'm hoping I'm not going to get massive errors from just doing this, but the whole experience and the changing numbers on the file in particular that is throwing problems leads me to some serious questions.

1.) If these files are just flittering through my system and vanishing as quickly as they are created, which is quite possible because all the error reports put them at under 100k in size, then why do they all have creation dates going back 5 months and not the current date and time when the error is reported?

and most of all, as the title of the thread asks:

2.) What the heck is a .WHM file and where would these even be showing up in my Steam folders to begin with?

From GTA Modding wiki[www.gtamodding.com]:

"WHM is a new file format introduced in GTA 4. WHM files contain in-game websites including texts and textures. While most WHM files have little to no bearing on gameplay, certain sites, such as EyeFind and the controversial Little Lacy Surprise Pageant website, may trigger certain ingame events via SCO scripts."

From what little googling I did ("what is a .whm file") they are also used in Dawn Of War.
Hope that's helpful.

That doesn't tell me why they are elusive, locked from copying and windows can't find them, but it at least tells me what game(s) to worry about verifying if they are skipped... Thanks.
