How to clear the htmlcache and httpcache ?
Hi,

I notice steam keeps a lot of files inside C:\Program Files\Steam\config\htmlcache
And also inside C:\Program Files\Steam\appcache\httpcache\XX with XX numbers.
It's dozens of files, I guess for the browser embeded in the steam client.
Is there an option to remove those files ?
Are there any no bad effects to remove them ?
Or is there an option to have no cache in hard disk but have it only in memory like in firefox or set the maximum cache size ?

Thanks in advance

There is the option steam.exe -nocache
"This starts steam with no cache (Steam must be off for this to work properly). "
I dont know what this means...

just that you need to set it when steam is not running I think.

I know this is a super old thread, but I have just learned of (what I know of at the moment to be) all of the places steam stores cookies.

The locations are as follows for a 64 bit computer:
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Steam\htmlcache
C:\Program Files (86x)\Steam\appcache\httpcache
C:\Program Files (86x)\Steam\config\htmlcache
Files in blue I usually find empty.
I hope this helps.

@Blarg,

Just a note to say that the Appdata\Local\Steam location for those html files was a useful hint, and helped me improve the efficacy of squashing Steam related issues (even long after having solved whatever else was bedeviling customers with malware/adware/scumware 'suites'). My thanks, and I have assembled a more or less complete run down of how to do this on a few threads as a means of repayment/paying it forward.

Thank you, and know that many more will indirectly who will use that as part of their overall repair package. ~Al

I'm not sure if you still are subbed to this thread, but I was just going to say that searching Appdata is one of the most important things you should do when you're trying to make sure that there is no program that is storing stuff you don't know about or when you're trying to delete ALL of a program manually. This also goes for cookie storage and other malware-related things. I should have said this a year ago.

I wish i'd known about this before. My Steam client would not load and stayed in updating... or Installing update... forever. Some friends suggested uninstalling the steam client, when i did there were a gazillion files in the \Steam\appcache\httpcache folders, so the uninstall took forever. Wish i had just deleted those files instead of the uninstall. Maybe that'd have been faster.
