Big picture mode wrong resolution?

Big Picture mode refuses to run at the correct resolution? I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro with a GTX 760 and my desktop resolution is 1920x1080 50hz.

Big Picture reports the windows size as 1536x864, and the active resolution as 1536x824.

Target resolution is set to 1920x1080 (1080p)

How do I get it to run at 1920x1080?

If you go to the settings menu at the top of the main screen (where it says Store Library and Community) there should be a graphics option in that settings menu. That's where you can adjust your Big Picture window size to whatever resolution you would like.

There is, and iset it to 1920x1080 but it refuses to run at that since it thinks the window size is 1536x824

Fixed. Had to go in Control Panel, Appearance & Personalisation, Display and then check the Let Me Choos One Scaling Level For My Display. I set it to Smaller 100%.

Works fine now.

This thread helped me understand what was going on. I have my computer hooked up to my TV so I actually need the larger desktop font otherwise the text is way too small to see at 100%. I'm curious if Big Picture is actually displayed at the resolution displayed in the application or the zoomed in resolution. Technically windows and my GPU are displaying 1080p but big picture shows 720p. Games are still being run at 1080 so I'm not entirely sure what's going on. I don't recall these settings being in previous versions of Windows. I'm currently using Windows 8.1.

My thought is that Windows is displaying as if it was 720p resolution (drawing everything that way) however the GPU is rendering everything at 1080p still. That's just a guess. I'd like to find out more about this display setting in Windows.

I just went through this issue too and found a solution. I'm using a HTPC for In-Home Streaming and have the desktop scaled to 175% to make all the icons easier to see on my TV for Windows. This caused Steam BPM to down res.

You need to go into your Program Files directory or wherever you have Steam installed, find the Steam.exe, right click, select Properties, click the Compatibility tab, and click the option for 'Disable display scaling on high DPI settings'. Hope this helps someone else.

Promoting this as the correct solution to HTPC users. Windows 10 DPI scaling is problematic and can be circumvented, but if you have to use it this is how you should run Steam so that internal and display resolutions match.

Battousai thanks for the fix!! my Steam kept loading 720p Big Picure while I have a 2560x1080, was driving me crazy lol
