Garry's Mod multiplayer without server?

Can I play Garry's Mod with a friend (Online) without making a server? If so how?

Well, you could join an existing server.
But why don't you want to open one? It's not like you sell your soul to the devil by doing so.

Its just having another thing to deal with, im not looking to hold more than 3 people and it just kind of bugs me to have to host it, if i really have to i will but i just was hoping for an alternative.

Then just join an empty server.
Besides, it's not like it's something to deal with. You start the game, you open a server and when you close the game, the server is closed aswell. How is that hard to deal with?

I don't really know how hard it is to set up a server (for garrys mod) but after setting up a Minecraft server, its a hell i dont really want to go through all over. I will if i have to but just am looking for a nother way of going about it.

Dunno about Minecraft. But for any Source game, you a) have to forward the port 27015 on your router and b) open a server in game. a) is a little work which has to be done only once, b) is as easy as opening a LAN game. Or a singleplayer game.

I just dont want to have like 3 programs running with IP numbers going all over the place. Its a horrible mess.

You don't. You just open a listen server inside the game. What you did for Minecraft was setting up a dedicated server.

Okay thank you so much for your help, Im pretty sure i know what i need to do know. I just have to wait for my friend gets home to test out if it works, thanks again.
