I have a wirelless xbox controller + kb + mouse.
If I were you, I wouldn't drop the controller away. I think most 3rd person games are way better with a controller. Since you mentioned Splinter Cell, I can't play it with kb + mouse!!! Assassin's Creed series too. Also there's platform games like Super Meat Boy and fighting games like Street Fighter which are almost impossible to play with a kb.
I use kb + mouse mostly for strategy games and 1st person games, like FarCry 3 and Skyrim.
So, I just think you should consider keeping both. Not replacing one for another.
That seems weird because I use my left for wasd and my right for the mouse, using my left for the arrow keys would feel uncomfortable.
Yea I'll end up getting a wireless 360 controller, I assume it has a USB dongle correct?
Yep. And the controller uses 2 AA batteries.
It takes alot of getting use to,I can type sentences all day long without looking at the keyboard but when it comes to playing games,I still some times have to look at the keyboard.
I have to agree that 3rd person games are much better with a controller but if you try to use a controller in a game like battlefield 4 you will be handicapping yourself.
What do you mean by this?
That's even worse than having to play FPS with a controller. I play on KB for over 10 years now and WASD is the best choice. It's the default setting on any shooter for a good reason.
You'll need some time to get accustomed to it but you'll see it works best.
And please don't EVER get used to inverted X-Axis! Its gonna be a pain when there is no option to invert and you can't go back.
It depends on the game. Platformers(like Super Meat Boy) and fighting games(Street Fighter types) are much better with a controller.
But if you want to play any difficult, or competitive FPS, there's no way you'll compete using a controller.
