Getting used to PC Controls coming from a controller.
A Console gamer my whole life and have given it all up for PC, I am loving steam and PC gaming in general but it is taking me some time to adjust to Mouse and Keyboard, For instance I love the splinter cell games and I have them on PC, I can play them but I have to keep remembering the keys and what not, I am just not as efficent as I am with a conteroller.

With the controller I can play these games really fast, do 2-3 actions in quick succesion, I wonder if I will get to that level with a mouse and keyboard eventually, I am gonna keep on with it though as I dont want to connect a controller for most PC games (unless I absolutly have to), maybe all it takes is more practice.

Any tips?

That's my setup:

I have a wirelless xbox controller + kb + mouse.
If I were you, I wouldn't drop the controller away. I think most 3rd person games are way better with a controller. Since you mentioned Splinter Cell, I can't play it with kb + mouse!!! Assassin's Creed series too. Also there's platform games like Super Meat Boy and fighting games like Street Fighter which are almost impossible to play with a kb.

I use kb + mouse mostly for strategy games and 1st person games, like FarCry 3 and Skyrim.

So, I just think you should consider keeping both. Not replacing one for another.
Just keep playing. I started with CSS with is a pretty hard game to just jump into straight from a 360 controller, i sucked for months at first. Then you slowly get better and more confident. Now every time i go to my friends house and 'play' their moronbox, the controller feels like a kids toy that i can't really even use at all. Thats all over the course of less than 2 years

Try to adjust the mouse sensitivity until you can look 180 degrees in each direction.
That way its smooth and natural.

I would recommend arrows and surrounding buttons for movement etc, instead of wasd. Easier to access and to remember.

That seems weird because I use my left for wasd and my right for the mouse, using my left for the arrow keys would feel uncomfortable.

Yea I'll end up getting a wireless 360 controller, I assume it has a USB dongle correct?

Yep. And the controller uses 2 AA batteries.
Yea I ahve a laptop so maybe that is why.
My advice for you would be to get a weigthed mouse with removable weigths so you can get just the amount of friction you feel comfortable with..I would also recommend a mouse with atleast 3 or more buttons not including your clickers..The less keys you have to use on your keyboard the better..I would recommend that you bind every important key around the wasd keys..Always bind jump to space and bind sprint to shift..

It takes alot of getting use to,I can type sentences all day long without looking at the keyboard but when it comes to playing games,I still some times have to look at the keyboard.

I have to agree that 3rd person games are much better with a controller but if you try to use a controller in a game like battlefield 4 you will be handicapping yourself.

Mouse-look alone makes up for any limitation of the M&KB imho

What do you mean by this?

That's even worse than having to play FPS with a controller. I play on KB for over 10 years now and WASD is the best choice. It's the default setting on any shooter for a good reason.

You'll need some time to get accustomed to it but you'll see it works best.

And please don't EVER get used to inverted X-Axis! Its gonna be a pain when there is no option to invert and you can't go back.
xpadder, dayz profile for xpadder, xbox 360 controller...no mouse/keyboard needed.
You will get used to it. I am from the gaming days when all you had for a PC was a keyboard. Using CTRL to fire, ALT to strafe, and space bar to open doors and such...and then your right hand used arrow keys to move. I am very adept at using a keyboard so now when games require using w a s d, e for use, f for something, h, k, whatever key, I have no trouble at all.
Playing games on the PC using a gamepad is perfectly fine. Do it.
I was same for about 2 months. After about 2 monthys of failing with keyboard and mouse I started to get better and able to play decently in FPS games. I still use controller for games suited for it, like Tomb Radier, Batman, racing games and platformers.

It depends on the game. Platformers(like Super Meat Boy) and fighting games(Street Fighter types) are much better with a controller.

But if you want to play any difficult, or competitive FPS, there's no way you'll compete using a controller.
And yes, to the OP. I was always a console gamer until a couple years ago, and was really good with a gamepad on most games. I thought mouse/kb was the most awkward thing ever, but after sticking it out, it is SO much better for alot of games, particularly FPS, and you will get just as good as you were with time and practice. .
