d3d/d3d9 Error on Several Steam Games
Hello everyone. Can anyone help me out with a severe problem I've been having with my steam games?. I have a Lenovo y480 laptop with a gt 650 graphics card that uses optimus with an Intel HD 4000. This computer runs windows 8. Recently I have been completely unable to play a large portion of my Steam games, because when I launch games like Rising Storm, Chivalry, Rust, and a few other games, I receive a d3d9 or a d3d error. Chivalry and Rust work, but only in windowed mode and at lower than full resolution(1366x768), and will crash immediately or give a d3d9 error before crashing if I try to implement fullscreen or 1366x768. Other games simply give the d3d or d3d9 error and crash, or give no error at all but give a flashing black screen which sometimes is inescapable outside of shutting my pc off. I've looked around Steam forums and done a quick google to find solutions, including changing the resolution in the games' config files, updating directx, and updating my video card drivers, but nothing has worked. If anyone knows how to fix this, or can at least point me in the right direction, your help is much appreciated.

Hey, I have this error too, and also read the article about the D3D error in the Steam Support section. I sent a message to Steam Support yesterday and currently waiting for an answer... :(

Do a system restore to before the trouble started.

It seems like you didn't install DirectX on your Win8,to get the latest update download and install it from here :

I have never played the game with the AMD GPU graphics, so I don't know "when the trouble started"...

I'm sure that I already have it. When I tried to install it (again), it said "DirectX setup has determined that a newer or equivalent version of DirectX has been installed already. No installation is necessary"

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
