Steam friends
I started using steam about 2 years ago but until recently i never used it. I have now switched from console to pc but one thing i have realised is when i was console gaming it was much easier to communicate with other players and everyone wanted to chat and send friend requests but it seems like everyone on PC wants to keep themselves to themselves? am i wrong? starting to regret selling my xbox one...

You can start a chat with a single button on steam its not hard.

Do you mean you dont have any friends on steam? cos thats not the same thing at all.

Play online to make new friends on steam, a single player game isnt going to connect you to anyone new. Play on friendly well admined servers, use voice chat but dont be annoying.. etc etc.. Like real life but online.

Phishing is too common, so PC'ers have learned to be selective of their friends lists, so to lower the risk of such things.

As for me, I generally won't accept random friends request unless I've actually played with you on a 4 player co-op games such as L4D or something and note that I can get along with you. Only other exception used to be if you wanted to trade cards. But that's not necessary anymore since you can leave a url link for that, now.

i dont have any friends on steam because, like i said, ive only just switched to pc but what i mean is it is sooooo much easier to communicate with people on consoles than pc? I would of thought it would of been the opposite but obviously im wrong. Just getting used to the change lol
whats hard? the action of speaking (ie- pressing the button to speak) or finding friends?

tbh 330 hours in skyrim ( a single player game) isnt how to find new people on steam. This is your issue, you are not playing any online games.

euughhh forget it
Lack of an instant entry to group chat, I guess....

You can do that on Steam, but you need to enroll in a group first.... Every Group has a Chat Room, weither or not people are in there is another story.
Install tf2 for free and play it online to meet lots of nice new people. :)
ive got tf2 but not a massive fan tbh :/ i had orange box on the 360 and tf2 had such a low player base on console
about 30k active at any time on pc. Or DOTA2 (300k active) or any other free to play game on steam that has a popular community.

I'd suggest more Co-Op games like L4D and Payday to start to be honest; you've to deal with fewer people around and they've a relatively soft skill curve which make them a more newbie friendly environment. I'm afraid that the iper-competitive "culture" of DOTA2 (and all other MOBAs) doesn't really allow a relaxing experience for newbies.
I find you need a group before starting co op games, joining smaller co op games when you dont know the people does not normally end well. Ever been in the l4d forums for pub nightmare threads? MVM pub threads? Yeah its not so good. :D

Large servers (24) players i still think is the best way to meet new people.

l4d is only a nightmare, if you play versus. Co-op isn't as bad.
Sanctum 2 is 4 player Co-op as well, but you missed the sale during the free weekend.

I agree with you, I have consoles ps4 xbone and wii u but pc people usually do keep them selves to them selves or stick with people they know, consoles you can easily add new friends, you can just press the chat button, (the button you allocate for each game) i only have two friends and ive been on steam for 3 -4 years and ive got about 40 on consoles.. add me, i play randomly and i play all sorts of games im not fussed :-)
ps should of kept your console though and got pc too..:-)
I'm a console gamer. I traded my ps4 for an Alienware Alpha gaming pc. I understand your concerns and I find you to be like minded to me. HMU if you want to be my friend. I don't feel like I have alot of achievements, though I don't look anyways. I like gaming for the immersive experience and to share that experience with others. I don't play games for the lore or achievements. I play for the experience. And yes, pc gaming isn't as controlled as console gaming so it is harder to find people on an open platform rather than just playing matchmaking games. I don't think he meant the kind of friends you just meet in matchmaking and play one game with, but rather a like minded gamer(s) to share gaming experiences with on many games. Those ambitious souls you find on the forums my friend. Friend me if you like. :)
