hamatchi
one of my steam friends who is a pretty cool guy plays with some people on a hamatchi server and wants me to join them, is hamatchi safe, can they hack my cpu using it? he is a cool guy but i am just over protective over my stuff

You should be alright, but I'm not 100 percent sure. I don't think they can hack your CPU at all.

i think you should have some security backup but see if you can prtect yourself and play with your friend

Anything another user on your lan can see on your PC (shared folders/files/printers) your friends on hamachi can see as well.

Hamachi is a VPN, or Virtual Private Network. A VPN allows multiple computers to connect over the internet and communicate as if they were on your own network. It would be as if they brought their computers over to your house and were connected on the same router.

Regarding security, only you "Shared Folders" will be accessible. Generally by default, only your videos, music, and photos folders are shared. If you would like to not allow them to access these folders, you can go to your "Control Panel", "Network and Sharing Center", "Change advanced sharing settings", and under "All Networks", choose "Turn off file and printer sharing".
