Upgraded to windows 8.1, now every game lags ?
Almost every game in my steam library is having lag issues after downloading windows 8.1 from MS store. I tried deleting temp files to free space and it did nothing. My PC is only a few months old. What are my options now ? do i need to reinstall steam and all my games ?

Specs
AMD FX 8320
HD7950
8g gskill ripjaws
Asus basic mobo
60hz dell monitor.

Did you upgrade or do a fresh install?

I already had Windows 8. I just upgraded to 8.1 from windows store.

Unfortunately, I really can't help much beyond this. I have yet to get W8 installed. Haven't had the time and I need a new HD.

This is funny, i just ran a program compatibility troubleshooter to see if all programs from w8 are ok with w8.1, i picked steam and it automatically sets up steam for w8 and prompts me to check if the issue is resolved, there isn't even an option to optimize these programs for 8.1. This is such bush league stuff from fortune 500 companies. Im seriously contemplating getting a PS4 at this point. I can't play any of the games i bought at steam sale with a perfectly capable system. If i were you i would stick with W7.

Well, I do know W8 and Steam do work well with each other but don't have W8 on anything at the moment.

There are a LOT of people using the combination and aren't having these issues.

Not sure which company you are referring to but I agree things could be better all around.

If you are going to play games on computers, it's almost imperative you are well versed at troubleshooting problems. Some people don't deal well with that and are better suited to consoles.

I didn't have any problems with W8 either, everything was running smoothly until after 8.1 upgrade. I don't think i am the only one with this problem, just do a google search and you can see lag is a prominent issue with 8.1 and microsoft hasn't solved this problem.

That is just one of the many articles on this topic. I am no engineer or programmer but i do know how to trouble shoot lag, i've already tried deleting %temp% and %prefetch% files to no success. Only thing left is a game booser which i feel is unnecessary for my machine.

Hmm. Looks like a made a good decision to wait until I could get a new hard drive to put 8 on, instead of clearing my current drive..

I have wanted to do it for a while now but just don't have the time or funds.

Hopefully, Microsoft will get the fix out soon.

Try reinstalling your grapics card drivers, or reinstalling steam/DirectX? I'm guesing its a driver issue

I reinstalled the amd drivers but it did nothing. Next up im thinking reinstalling steam but that will mean i have to reinstall my entire library of games. If that doesn't work i will reinstall W8 using the CD.

ive never had any issues with 8.1. i see tons of threads with complaints about 8.1 and gaming but i dont see why. every game ive tried has ran flawlessly. i bet if you wipe your pc and start from scratch youll have no issues. when my fiance upgraded 7 to 8 it broke everything on her laptop till she wiped it.

Does somebody still have the Steam Community In-Game problem? I can't find a solution.
Everything with the settings looks ok, but still the in-game interface doesn't show up.

Don't have other gaming problems with Windows 8.1 though. All my games run the same as under Win 7. I would even recommend it as it's slightly lighter, boots faster than any other OS ...

Op, are you performing a clean install of your graphics drivers, this will delete any cp profiles for any games that you manually edited settings for?

If you don't want to do that, then double-check the global settings and make sure they are at default, and make sure that any profile you set up for specific games are reset to default - you can always re-tweak them later.

Verifying the game cache for each of your games may help as well.

I just did the "verify cache check" for some of my games, a lot of them are missing files, some are short 1 file some are missing 2 or 3. But for some reason, steam says that it will reacquire those files but doesn't do so. I tried exit steam and reopen to see if it installs, but it still wont. How do you force steam to download these missing files ?
