Steam and Proxy
Hi, new to Steam but I did a small amount of research on the subject and all I can find is "Steam and proxy is not meant to be". I can understand if Valve don't want to support such but in my home I have a network with a proxy server and for reference, I cannot be put outside of it and I cannot be allowed full unrestricted access. Also my home PC is the only PC built that can play games so I can't use another.

I have similar issues with Minecraft before but some proxy programs don't even work. I have but one game installed but as I didn't sign in offline I now can't play it and have no option to sign in offline. Is there any suggestions at all? If worst comes to it I'll just have to use my work's pc to run steam and sign in offline but I'd rather see if I can get it to work at all.

Thanks

You have to sign in online at least once to get offline mode to work. Signing in at your workplace won't help your home PC.

Well, that sucks. Thanks for letting me know. Anyone know what network ports Steam uses? I assume 80 and 443 but any others?

I believe they rannge from 27000 to 27050. Steam also uses 3478,4379, and 4380. But I do not think that these ports will affect anything related to proxy however.

The proxy literally denies any internet request internal or external unless a proxy account is given with the packet or it's set through the general firewall. I'll have to ask my admin to try set these to see if it works. Thanks
